First we had body board races and we learned how to do a dolphin and duck dive. A dolphin dive is when you dive over the waves and a duck dive is when you dive under the waves. When you are doing a duck dive and you are under the water you need to grip really hard onto the sand so that you don’t get caught in the tumble of the wave . Slide 7: Day 2 Rainbow Mountain Slide 8: When we went to Rainbow Mountain we waited to hear the bush safety rules from Rob. Then we were told to put on our sun hats and sun block otherwise we might get sun burnt. Finally we set off for the big walk up Rainbow Mountain! The walk was really tiring and very steep so we had stop every once in a while and have a drink of water so we didn’t get dehydrated. Kate, Millie and I kept thinking that the teachers were taking a car up so we asked them where they parked the car. Slide 9: Bush safety rules *Stay behind the leader/adult at all times *Stay on the track *Don’t pull out the plants *Wear covered in shoes *listen to an adult *Be cautious The view was great! : The view was great! We had 4 activities to do and 1 break for lunch. First we put on life jackets. We were told many different ways to jump into the water with our life jackets on. One way is to hold the collar of your life jacket (if you have one) then step off the platform that you’re on with straight legs.Later on we had to go into a circle and huddle together to keep afloat and warm. : When we got to the Aquatic Centre we got changed and got into our groups. Slide 14: Capsize If a boat capsizes it turns upside down or flips. Our second activity was the kayaks. We learned how to capsize kayaks and get back on them. That could help us if we go kayaking in rough waters and our kayak flips over. We also learned how to hold the paddle properly and we did kayak races against each other. Slide 15: Our third activity was saving people. On the edge of the pool we used ropes to rescue the people from drowning. We had to pull them up onto the edge of the pool. We put our foot on the end of the rope then make big loops with it and throw the rope to our partner. We had to float on : *gumboots *buckets *bottles *polystyrene box’s *fuel containers Slide 16: Our last activity was survival training. We had to put on huge t-shirts and learn how to put them on and take them off in the water. It is very tricky because the t-shirts absorb all the water. We also had to learn how to skull through the water. Made by us! : Made by us! You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
