How to Avoid Computer Crashes Clean up your Hard Drive     Delete all Auxilary Files from previous projects   Defrag Hard drive (s) before starting project Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09

How to Avoid Computer Crashes :

How to Avoid Computer Crashes Plan your Project       Identify natural breaks in your filming   Work with smaller clips Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09

Plan the Project :

Plan the Project Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 In the Capture Drive/Folder create Folders and sub-folders to store your clips    Each Folder named TAPE will contain short clips of aaprox 5 mins in sequencial order   This does NOT mean you have to bring the clips into the project in sequence

Think Books  -  Pages and Chapters :

Think Books  -  Pages and Chapters Capture your clips by the page    Edit the pages and build Chapters   Seamlessly bring your Chapters into a Book Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09

Chapter One :

Chapter One Identify the subject/location of Chapter One   Use  Automatic scene detection  Watch the capture and using the space bar stop after  5  mins based on content Rewind a few frames and capture the next part until all the clips for Chapter One have been captured Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09

Capture from Disc :

Capture from Disc Your video footage may already be on DVD either  in wmv, avi or mpg format or as  TS_DVD with .VOB sections Note VOB sections are a MAX of 1 Gig Try copying each VOB section onto the hard drive and RENAME as .mpg. Accept the warning. The clips can then be opened with Pinnacle for editing Be patient for the scene detection as this helps working with smaller sections Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09

Start Editing :

Start Editing Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 Open a New Project -select EDIT From Folder Icon Select Folder containing first clips Drag  into your project all the scenes you want to use from the  clip Edit each Scene and if not using the captured Audio then delete Then bring down scenes from next clip Continue to complete Chapter One Save Frequently This does NOT mean you have to bring the clips into the project in sequence

Check Output and Clear Disc :

Check Output and Clear Disc Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 Play Chapter One and if necessary make changes BEFORE next step. Changes to the project will have to be re-rendered and a new Output file created.  Save space by overwriting the previous file using the same name.  Clear Disc (Optional - based on Capacity of the Disc used to capture the clips)  Delete the captured clips for Chapter ONE

Create Project Chapter by Chapter :

Create Project Chapter by Chapter Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 Save each Chapter in the same Folder Working in this manner you can complete each Chapter without over stretching your computer hardware. Small clips loaded into memory ensures faster working and  less crashes Laptop users will also benefit by keeping the heat produced to a minimum when rendering.

Build The Book using Pinnacle :

Build The Book using Pinnacle Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 Open a NEW Project Open the Folder with the Chapters Drag down each Chapter in Order Select a Transition between each Chapter Check that the audio is seamless and evenly balanced Make Movie - Burn DVD Because each Chapter has been rendered as a single track the processing power required to join together is less demanding

Using other Burning Software :

Using other Burning Software Sylvia Winterbottom - Mirande Workshop March 09 Nero, Roxio, Windows Movie Maker or any other burning software offering DVD authoring can be used Each Chapter is brought into a project in the same way . The option to automatically play the chapters in order makes the final video a seamless production. It also allows Chapters to be individually selected if required
