HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK? Beginners This is a self paced course consisting of 30 worksheets which are used in conjunction with the Textbook 'Shorthand for Journalists' by Dawn Johnson. Each worksheet summarises the unit and provides easy to follow instructions and tips which is like having a tutor on hand. At the end of each worksheet is a Quiz to assess understanding of the principles learnt. Four progressive assessments are offered at different intervals which meet the Australian Competency Standard. Individual assistance and marking is available by email, post or phone once you are registered. There are four modules in all, each containing a series of progressive worksheets and an Assessment to be completed and forwarded for correction and grading on your personalised Progress Chart. Once registered I will send you by mail a starter package which includes everything you will need for the completion of this course. The package will include Textbook 'Teeline for Journalists' by Dawn Johnson, MP3 disc with dictation passages, Personal Worksheet booklet with Progress Chart, Shorthand Notebook and pacer pencil. Refreshers Perhaps you have learned Teeline in the past and need to refresh your skills and work on Speed Development. Once assessed, you will be provided with a personalised study plan and Progress Chart with progressive speed ladder exercises and graded dictations which are provided via email attachments. Once registered I will send you an initial Theory Assessment and Free Dictations at varying levels to assess where to begin for your personalised study plan. This course has been designed by Joanne Rogers who is a Senior Lecturer with a prominent Sydney College of Journalism and has been teaching shorthand for over 25 years.

REFRESHERS The refresher package includes everything you will need to improve your speed to your desired requirements. Each module will be designed to your specific level and will include a Speed Ladder Workbook with Progress Chart and six units of dictated practice sessions which comprise of 20 minutes of practice material at increasing rates and free dictation exercises at different rates for transcription and marking. These sessions will be emailed to you as a sound file attachment which can be worked from your computer or downloaded on to your MP3 device for portability. INITIAL THEORY ASSESSMENT AND FREE DICTATION $50.00 This will be tailored to the level at which you feel you are at which is determined after a short discussion of your needs and requirements. The Theory assessment will take about an hour to complete and should be done under test conditions if an accurate diagnosis is required. The Free Dictation will consist of three four minute timings (Australian Standard) at different rates and you will need to transcribe your best one with an accuracy of 98%.
