The Story of EutychusActs 20:7-10 :

The Story of EutychusActs 20:7-10 On the first day of the week, when we met to break bread, Paul was holding a discussion with them; since he intended to leave the next day, he continued speaking until midnight. There were many lamps in the room upstairs where we were meeting. A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, began to sink off into a deep sleep while Paul talked still longer. Overcome by sleep, he fell to the ground three floors below and was picked up dead. But Paul went down, and bending over him took him in his arms, and said, "Do not be alarmed, for his life is in him."

As Christian Doctors We Believe And Observe :

As Christian Doctors We Believe And Observe The Christian Church (the most important institution in the world today) has been lulled to sleep by the current American culture of self destructive health behaviors. Christians are dying a self induced death of obesity, diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. But, just as Eutychus, there is still life present.

The Bible Says Christians have: :

The Bible Says Christians have: An All-powerful God. The power of rebirth. The guiding force of the Holy Spirit. The power of prayer. Only by utilizing these Christian principles can the current plague of poor health be overcome.

The 4 Principles of Healthy Living :

The 4 Principles of Healthy Living Do Not Smoke. Maintain a BMI<30. 3. Exercise 150 minutes/week. 4. Eat 5 servings of fruits or vegetables daily. BMI=Body Mass Index (weight in relation to height) Multiple studies have found that people who do these 4 things have dramatically better health.

Slide 10:

Only 8% of Americans practice all 4 principles! Romans 3:23 - We have all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (When it comes to health we are all sinners.) The 4 Principles of Healthy Living 1) Do Not Smoke. 2) Maintain a BMI<30. 3) Exercise 150 minutes/week. 4) Eat 5 servings of fruits or vegetables daily. If you do not follow The 4 Principles, do not feel alone.

Are YOU Healthy? :

Are YOU Healthy? ?

As Christian physicians we see first hand the suffering that health problems cause for individuals, for the Church, and for the nation as a whole. Some of the problems we see are Unavoidable: Breast cancer Pneumonia Dementia

But, what is concerning is that the majority of the health problems we see are AVOIDABLE AND PREVENTABLE! The majority of health problems we see are brought about by choices we make; choices about how we treat our bodies; choices to be careless with our health or to be good stewards of our God given physical bodies.

What Would Jesus Do? :

What Would Jesus Do? Which food does the Holy Spirit within you guide you to choose? Is there anyone who thinks that high fat greasy food is better for us than fruits and vegetables? Would Jesus have us eat food that, while it tastes great and satisfies our bodily desire, is killing us? Or would Jesus have us eat in a way that glorifies the Temple of the Holy Spirit? That makes us healthier Christians.

What is a Poor Diet? :

What is a Poor Diet? The Journal - Circulation (Oct 21,2008) The typical American diet of fried foods, salty snacks, eggs, and meat led to a 30% increase in heart attacks. A diet high in fruits and vegetables led to a 35% reduction in heart attacks. So, a diet lacking fruits and vegetables is a poor diet. – WHY?

Our Witness :

Our Witness Study from New England Journal of Medicine July, 2007 If someone has a friend or family member who is or becomes obese, that person is much more likely to become obese.

Slide 69:

This study should challenge us to realize that our health choices have a direct effect (for good or bad) on those around us. This is especially true of our close friends, siblings, spouses, and children. When we are careless with our health we have the potential to lead others into temptation and despair.

What has been Our Witness? :

What has been Our Witness? Highest rates of obesity. Pastors – leading the nation. Indulgence masquerading as fellowship. Donuts for Sunday school. Chocolate socials. Indifference.

Slide 71:

Why is it important to be healthy? Children Witness Called to Serve As Christians,

Called To Serve :

Called To Serve As Christians we must realize that if anything is to be done on Earth for Jesus it must be done by us. We think in Spiritual terms (grace, justification, sanctification), but while on Earth we act through our physical bodies – “members of Christ”. Whether we are spreading the Good News, ministering to the poor and sick, or helping our fellow Christians, we need our physical bodies.

Slide 73:

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. What Will You Do In Service To Christ? What does Christ call us to do?

Called To Serve :

Called To Follow :

Called To Follow “Take up your cross and follow me.” Will you be healthy enough to take up your cross?

Slide 77:

The World and Satan will attack us both spiritually AND physically, knowing that if a Christian can be made ineffective through physical illness, less good will be accomplished in the name of Jesus.

Slide 78:

Knowing this, we must make sure that we do not do anything to our bodies that will increase the chances of illness and lead to physical destruction. Are we destroying our bodies?

Slide 99:

The power of action only comes through Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Spirit.

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian5 Questions :

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian5 Questions Are we healthy? (Nation/Church/You) How can we become healthy? What are the benefits of good health? Why is it important to be healthy? Why the Church?

Why The Church? :

Why The Church? Why am I speaking to you about health? Why am I not going to a school, or business, or community center? It is because of the gift and burden that all of mankind has been given. Freewill – Choice

Slide 102:

Freewill – Choice You can choose good health habits, or bad health habits; choose Light or Darkness; choose Life or Death. Hopefully for everyone here, you have already made the critical decision. You have chosen Life in Jesus Christ. Because if you have not made that decision, all the rest of this does not matter. (smoking, weight, diet, exercise)

Slide 103:

BUT, Once you have made the decision to surrender your life to Jesus Christ and once you have received the Holy Spirit - you are no longer a victim of this world! - you can no longer be CONFORMED to this world!

Slide 104:

Christians are called to be different from the World. Called to be sanctified – to be made HOLY by the Spirit of God. Romans 12:2 - Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds. Reborn, Spirit-filled Christians can change. I guarantee you that there are people in your church who – through REBIRTH in Christ – have overcome drug or alcohol addiction, immorality, despair, and a host of other sins.

Slide 105:

Only in the Church can this tidal wave of poor health, disability, and death be overcome.

Slide 106:

Why the Church? Only in the Church

Slide 107:

We are Born Again.  We have the Power of Prayer. We have the Holy Spirit. Only in the Church

We are Born Again.  We have the Power of Almighty God to change. Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

We have the Power of Prayer. Philippians 4:6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Matthew 11:24 Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

We have the Holy Spirit. Rebirth – we can change! Mark 1:8 - I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Teacher/Discernment – the ability to know what is good or bad. John 14:26 - But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you. POWER Acts 1:8 - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.

We have the Holy Spirit. Righteousness, Peace, and Joy Romans 14:17 - For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. A Helper – we are not alone to face this World! 2 Timothy 1:14 - Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.

Slide 112:

Your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

If you truly believe what I have said :

If you truly believe what I have said That we as Christians are called to be different, called to be an example, to be The Light of a World that is killing itself. AND That as Reborn, Spirit filled Christians we can overcome ANYTHING (drugs, alcohol, sex, tobacco, fast food, chocolate, a busy schedule, ANYTHING) Then you must also believe that how you treat your health, your God given physical body is important.

Slide 114:

The Corinthians believed that once they were Christians all that mattered was spiritual things, their physical bodies no longer mattered. They could do anything to their bodies (such as sleep with prostitutes) and it did not matter. Paul tells them, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?  For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian :

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian So, as a fellow Christian I want to Dare you, to challenge you personally, as a member of Christ, and collectively, as the Body of Christ, to be healthy Christians.

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian :

Dare To Be A Healthy Christian Good health starts with you. It can spread to your spouse, your family, your work, this entire Church, this entire Nation. But, it starts with each individual person.

Our Hope For You :

Our Hope For You CHOOSE LIFE Deuteronomy 30:19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.

Slide 118:

A Balanced Life Physical Life Spiritual Life

Physical Life :

Physical Life To choose life physically we hope you will all practice the 4 Principles of Healthy Living so that you can be different from this self destructive world and live long, healthy, productive lives in service to Christ. The 4 Principles of Healthy Living Do Not Smoke. Maintain a BMI<30. Exercise 150 minutes/week. Eat 5 servings of fruits or vegetables daily.

Physical Life :

Physical Life Step 1 Find Your Reason To Be Healthy YOUR reason to make this life altering change. You can’t do it because I am telling you to, or your pastor tells you to, or your doctor tells you to. It must be your decision. Your total commitment.

Find Your Reason To Be Healthy :

Find Your Reason To Be Healthy For You. Your children/grandchildren. Your witness. As the Temple of the Holy Spirit. As a “member” of the “Body of Christ” on Earth. In light of the fact that everyone is accountable to God. Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Physical Life :

Physical Life Step 2

Spiritual Life :

Spiritual Life To Choose Life Spiritually you must Trust in and use the power of the Holy Spirit. Only then… Rebirth – the ability to change. Teacher/Discernment – know right from wrong. POWER! Righteousness, Peace, and Joy. Helper – we are not alone to face this World!

Spiritual Life :

Spiritual Life Trust in and use the power of the Holy Spirit. To do what the rest of the world cannot do. Change your health habits. From destruction to regeneration; from death to Life; from darkness to Light; from a life conformed to this World, to a life transformed by Jesus.

CHOOSE LIFEAct Now! :
