Premium member Presentation Transcript The Imperfect Tense makes perfect sense! : The Imperfect Tense makes perfect sense! talking about what you used to do Imperfect: the uses : Imperfect: the uses to talk about what WAS HAPPENING in the past (not what HAPPENED) to talk about what A PERSON USED TO DO to talk about HABITUAL PAST ACTIONS The imperfect tense is : The imperfect tense is unlike the preterite tense, which talks about completed events that took place at a specific time in the past: Let’s look at a sentence in English with 2 different verb forms: I was walking home when it began to rain. (Which of these 2 events is completed?) Yep-”began” is the completed action! It may keep on raining, but the actual beginning is over with. Which event was incomplete? : Which event was incomplete? English example: I was walking home when it began to rain. (Which of these 2 events is NOT completed?) “was walking” is NOT completed, at least not in this sentence. Ejemplos en español: : Ejemplos en español: Yo caminaba a casa cuando empezó a llover. (I was walking home when it began to rain.) En esos días leías los libros de Dr. Seuss.
