Reid Walker Re-evaluating Crude Oil Shipments

Slide2:

In an ideal world, we would have no use for oil and be able to fuel our economies and societies on greener energies that are not so harmful to our planet. However, we have built our societies on the need for oil. This huge demand has dictated everything from foreign policy and geopolitical relations to destroying some of our most beautiful natural landscapes

Slide3:

Reid Walker – Crude Oil By Rail Bill Aims to Raise Safety Standards of transporting oil in the US. So what exactly is crude oil and how do we extract it? Crude oil is a liquid found naturally in rock, containing mostly complex hydrocarbons, with some additional organic material. It is the major fuel used on the planet, and is used in the production of many synthetic materials like plastics as well.

Slide4:

With such a huge production in such a small area, the challenge starts with delivery to the far reaches of the United States. Transportation is done via pipelines and by rail. Unfortunately, shipping by rail has proven to be deadly and hazardous to the environment

Slide5:

The  Crude-by-rail-safety act of 2015 was supported by many senators in Washington D.C and aimed to increase the measures of health and safety when shipping oil across the US via rail. It called for more stringent measures, and made it a much more difficult process, to help innovate new and safer methods of transport for the much needed fuel.
