Mission: 

Mission Mission Statement adopted by the HOD in 1993 Fig 8-1 * Serving the public and its members Via advancements in practice, education, and research

Goals: 

Goals Proposed by the Board of Directors Set yearly for following year Anchored into Vision 2020 Proposed in 2005 for 2006 Box 8-3 pp. 172

Membership: 

Membership Voluntary Participation 2/3 are PTs Categories PTs, PTAs, Students Life/Retired PT and PTAs Honorary →made outstanding contributions Catherine Worthingham Fellow (FAPTA) Requirements Graduate from accredited PT/PTA program Enrolled as student in an accredited educational program Sign pledge agree to abide by Code of Ethics (PT) Box 5-1 Standards of Ethical Conduct for PTA Box 5-2 Pay dues *

Districts: 

Districts most local organizational unit Small states may not have any Membership is automatic Higher populations Usually several counties Provides convenience for meetings Provides Representation for next level Coastal Bend District South Texas from Corpus Christi and below to the border south of San Antonio Conduct regular meetings to represent our body of members

Chapters: 

Chapters Confined to a state- Texas Chapter (TPTA) In 2006 there was 52 Membership is Automatic May hold Special Interest Groups (SIG) * Requires dues from its members PTs, PTAs, Some Students Provides representation for national level At HOD Provides voice for state legislation/regulations*

Sections: 

Sections National level Each governed by Board of Directors 18 sections ( Table 8-1 pp.175-176) Publication Combined Sections Meeting CSM (annual in Feb) Special Interest Groups (SIG) Specialty area/areas within a section* Members with similar interest Meet, confer, and promote Voluntary but must be APTA member Extra dues

Assemblies:

House of Delegates (HOD): 

House of Delegates (HOD) Policy making body of APTA Formulate APTA Bylaws Composed of: 2 voting delegates from all chapters 1 Non voting delegates to make motions from each section 5 PTA Caucus 5 Student Assembly Board of Directors Representation is proportionate Above 400 Annual meeting Elects association’s officers and board of directors and nominating committee members

Board of Directors: 

Board of Directors 6 officers of APTA President, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, speaker of the HOD, vice speaker of HOD 9 directors Meetings in November and March Carry out policies directed by HOD Develop ad hoc/association committees

PTA Caucus: 

PTA Caucus Purpose Represent the interests of the PTAs Representatives who are PTAs Voice of PTA in each chapter Meet, confer, provide recommendations on issues Advanced Proficiencies of the PTA Elected or selected at the chapter level (2 yr term) Elect the 5 PTA non voting delegates to the HOD Allowed to speak and debate at HOD Created by the HOD in 2005 Annual Meetings-Initial meeting was in 2006

Staff: 

Staff APTA Headquarters Alexandria, Virginia Contacted by phone or APTA website More than 160 staff members Provide support for HOD BOD PTA Caucus Other National level committees Day-to-day affairs regarding collection of dues Providing information to the public
