This is the youngest photo of Joe known to exist, as the family ran out of film before he was born and couldn’t afford more until many years later.Slide 3: A handsome lad, Joe shares a birth year with many famous people. These include Mickey Mantle, Rita Moreno, Regis Philbin , both Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner , James Earl Jones, Dan Rather, and one of his favorite singers, Teresa Brewer.Slide 4: Joe served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War in the early ‘50s. In addition to his active military service…Slide 5: Joe also earned fame as a shirtless pin-up boy for the girls back home. Speaking of the girls back home…Slide 6: Emily D’Annunzio was waiting for him upon his return from Korea. “She’s a hot number!” he told the boys at the base. Most of them already knew this, as Em got around a lot in her younger days.Slide 7: And return from Korea, Joe did, welcomed home by his loving family.Slide 8: His family was overwhelmed with emotion upon his return, their heartfelt sentiment evident in a humble handmade sign: “From Parris Island to Korea, home comes Joe with diarrhea.”Slide 9: Joe wasted no time getting on with the next stage of his life, proposing to the woman of his dreams…Slide 10: No, not TV’s Dagmar…Slide 11: …but Emily. They were wed June 24, 1954 and have been together ever since. As we might say of Dagmar, they’re a perfect pair.Slide 12: And 57 years later, they’re still crazy about each other.Slide 13: As newlyweds, they flitted among rich and famous, carousing with the jet set, living the high life, until one day…Slide 14: Emily was paid a visit by the Virgin Mary. “You will bear children,” Mary told her. Emily felt blessed. Joe, however, had a different reaction…Slide 16: Nevertheless, bear children they did, a few times, in fact. First came two adorable girls, Elisa and Laura. (That’s Laura on the left, telling the photographer he’d get better light on the other side of the room and should move.) They were a happy family of four.Slide 17: By the time Tom and Dan came along, Joe was getting a little tired…Slide 18: In fact, he was getting a LOT tired…Slide 19: So he took a nap.Slide 20: He took a LOT of naps. His motto: “Sure I’m good in bed; I can sleep anywhere!”Slide 21: Fortunately, the family grew and he was able to use the new arrivals as an excuse to sack out on the couch with the babies. First came the grandkids…Slide 22: …ALL the grandkids.Slide 23: Then the great-grandkids.Slide 24: Yes, over the years, the family grew, from this…Slide 25: …to this, and then some. As patriarch of his own branch of the Petronio clan, Joe is unrivaled as a world-champion “Poppy.”Slide 26: That’s the part of Joe’s life we all know and love him for. Now, on to the parts we don’t know…Slide 27: The SECRET LIVES of JOE… Yes, he’s been a husband, a father, a marine, a phone repairman, a sports fan, an altar boy, and (to his kids) the Bank of Joe, but what about the lives he lived under that radar? We reveal today, his secret lives as…Slide 28: A butler, and a pool boy…Slide 29: A chef, and an arctic explorer…Slide 30: A mob boss, and a swimsuit model…Slide 31: A pirate, and a street thug…Slide 32: A nuclear radiation specialist, and a Playgirl centerfold…Slide 33: “THE HILLS ARE ALIVE…” And he was young Friedrich in the Petronio Family remake of “The Sound of Music”…Slide 34: Yes, through everything he’s done and everywhere he’s been, everybody loves Joe!Slide 35: 10/22/11 You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
