How long have you been doing this? What keep you involved ? “ Wow! It seems like I have always done this. I believe that I have been working with exchange students for roughly twelve years. My wife and I started by hosting. We had a wonderful experience. Tiffany called and asked if we would be willing to help find families to host. We thought that would be a great thing to do. Before I knew it, I was working as a regional advisor with the wonderful people who make up the Crossroads region. What keeps me involved is this opportunity to work with great people; the students, the families, and the other representatives. From these relationships many friendships have formed. Simply put, my involvement has been a commitment to students, but the benefits have been mine through life long friendships. How cool is that!” - Ron Crosby, Regional Advisor “It was purely by chance! In 1996, my daughter and I went with our high school French class on a three week tour or Paris and Orlean . When we returned in July, I overheard other woman talking at a softball game about a Japanese girl that needed a host family. I mentioned it to our family, and began the search for how to find out about her. It took about five phone calls, but I finally tracked down the agent in Goshen. We were interviewed the next day, and Megumi arrived shortly there after! It happened so quick! The next year, we hosted a German girl who has returned at least five times, twice with her family! Shortly after that, I was contacted by ISE, asking if I might be interested in working with exchange students on a regular basis. I am a high school English teacher, so I was already used to working with students, families, and schools. I accepted the invitation to become an Area Representative, which eventually worked into helping other agents as Regional Advisors. So here I am, 15 year later, still happy in the world of exchange, and now we have wonderful sons and daughters from all over the world, as well as amazing memories of traveling to a new country every year. It’s a great job! No, It’s not always easy, but when help is needed, ISE has a superb support system. You won’t be working alone!” Pam Pletcher , Regional Advisor Real answers from active Area Reps… What lead you to join the student exchange industry? Why do YOU do this job? Real answers from active Area Reps…: Why do YOU do this job? Real answers from active Area Reps… Kelly, you’ve become a rep just a short time ago and you came from another industry. How did you stay motivated to do well and become so successful? “ Oh! I LOVE my job because it doesn’t feel like a job! I stay motivated by the THRILL of knowing that every student I place gets me closer to knowing more about the country they are from and its traditions. I really enjoy working with TEENAGERS, helping them to grow through this most important time in their young lives. I’ve made many FRIENDS through meeting host families, so that I consider the students and families all are part of my extended family. “ Kelly Milan, Regional Advisor Why ISE? “ Having worked with another student exchange organization some time ago, I do know the difference. ISE is the premier of them all. The people you work with from Regional to Corporate are more committed to our families, schools, students and staff than anyone I know. We all work together and succeed together. We all have a common interest and that is being determined, committed and are ready to get the job done. There is no room at ISE for people who do not have the drive and interest to be successful in working with our student.” Tiffany Adams, Regional DirectorSlide 7: There are many qualities necessary to be an Area Rep.
