A Science A conductor’s full score is a chart, a graph which indicates: frequencies intensities volume changes melody harmony all at once with the most exact control of time! Music is… : Music is… It is rhythmically based on the subdivisions of time into fractions which must be done INSTANTANEOUSLY, NOT worked out on paper. Mathematical 1 & 2 3 4 & & & 1 & 2 3 4 & & & 1 & 2 3 4 & & & 1 & 2 3 4 & & & 1 & 2 3 4 & & & Music is… : Music is… Most of the terms are in Italian, German, or French; A Foreign Language The semantics of music is the most complex and UNIVERSAL language in the world! Allegro Cadenza Crescendo Dolce Baroque Bagatelle Embouchure Etude Abendmusik Lieblich Frisch Gebunden and the notation is certainly not English-but a highly developed kind of shorthand that uses symbols to represent ideas Music is… : Music is… Music usually reflects the environment and times of it’s creation, often even the country and/or social climate. History Music is… : Music is… It requires fantastic co-ordination of fingers, hands, arms, lips, cheek and facial muscles, in addition to extraordinary control of the diaphragmatic, back, stomach, and chest muscles, which respond instantly to the sound the ear hears and the mind interprets. Physical Education Music is… : Music is… It allows a human being to take all these dry, difficult techniques and use them to create emotion. That is one thing science cannot duplicate: humanism, feeling, emotion. All these things… but Music is ART! most of all, Slide 8: Not because I expect people to major in music This is why I teach music… Not because I expect people to play or sing all their life Slide 9: So there will be humanity in this world So there will be beauty in this world So there will be sensitivity in this world So people will be closer to an infinite beyond this world So people will have something to cling to So people will have I teach music MORE Love! MORE LIFE! MORE Compassion! MORE Gentleness! In short…. MORE Good!
