A violence prevention system that involves every student, teacher, and staff member in the building. Respect and Protect creates a school climate of consistent behavioral expectations and consequences. Why? : Why? 65% of students in the United States do not feel safe in school. : 65% of students in the United States do not feel safe in school. School must be a safe place for all kids : School must be a safe place for all kids What is Violence? : What is Violence? Slide 8: Violence is any mean word, look, sign, or act that hurts a person’s body, feelings, or things. Violence is not tolerated at our School : Violence is not tolerated at our School Respect : Respect The rights of others to learn The rights of teachers to teach The rules of the school and classroom Slide 11: How does Respect and Protect Work? Students will begin each day with a : Students will begin each day with a This year grade cards will include a conduct (behavior) grade. : This year grade cards will include a conduct (behavior) grade. Points : Points Students will begin each 9 weeks with a 100% If a student breaks a rule, points will be taken from their grade. Each mid-term, students will start over with 100%. Both mid-term grades will be averaged to get the 9 weeks grade. Keeping a Daily record : Keeping a Daily record Name charts will be displayed in every class with each students name. Students will begin each day with a smile card and 2 other warning cards. Instead of Pink Slips and White Slips we will be using the BIF which stands for Behavioral Intervention Form. The Behavioral Intervention Form : The Behavioral Intervention Form BIF How does the BIF work? : How does the BIF work? The BIF has 4 Stages: Stage 1 violations are less serious and will take 1 point from students grades. A student will have 2 warnings before getting a BIF in stage 1. In other words – 3 strikes and you get a BIF. Stage 2 violations are a little more serious and will take 3 points from a students grade. 1 Strike and you will get a BIF. Stage 3 violations will automatically take 10 points from a students grade. 1 strike and you get a BIF. Stage 4 violations are very serious and will automatically take 100 points from a students grade. Whose job is it to make Respect and Protect Work? : Whose job is it to make Respect and Protect Work? Everyones Outside Help : Outside Help Our school will be asking various outside organizations, mentors, law enforcers, counselors, and other community members to assist with interventions to help students improve behavior. Reporting : Reporting In order to keep everyone safe, it is important that you make a report if you know something could happen that would be harmful to you or others. Tattling VS Reporting : Tattling VS Reporting A report is different from tattling – reports are made to keep someone from trouble. Tattling is done to try to get someone in trouble. We will not tolerate tattling! How to make a report? : How to make a report? So that teachers know you are giving a serious report – approach a teacher or other staff member by saying “I’d like to make a report.” Rewards : Rewards Students will receive rewards: : Students will receive rewards: Based on student’s conduct grade.
