It integrates biblical truth It is the basis for sound doctrine and practice, as well as, a standard from which to critique them. It is a source of reform and renewal. It demonstrates the gospel’s call to obedience. It enables us to know, love, and serve Christ more fully. How do we research New Testament Theology? : How do we research New Testament Theology? First, lay out your presuppositions… What I am doing is primarily historical and descriptive. What I am doing deals with the NT books in their canonical context. What I am doing will tend to emphasize diversity. What I am doing is not systematic or historical theology. How do we research New Testament Theology? : How do we research New Testament Theology? Second, select your topic Limit the topic Formulate a question Reflect on your presuppositions How do we research New Testament Theology? : How do we research New Testament Theology? Third, gather your material Use the inductive approach Look at the topic afresh Read entire book(s) Use a concordance Identify all concepts related to your topic Use secondary resources after reading the NT. Identify commonalities and differences Be careful using the ‘analogy of Scripture’ Give full scope to the diversity of Scripture Be aware of methodological issues. Leave room for paradox and mystery!
