BurJuman, the organizers behind the region’s largest and most comprehensive breast cancer awareness programme – Safe & Sound has been actively involved in spreading awareness about breast cancer to the people of the UAE and beyond. Now entering its thirteenth successful year, it is aimed at women of all ages and ethnicities, and continues to reach thousands of people across the Emirates to spread the message of hope and encourage them to take the necessary steps in the fight against breast cancer.

How does it work? The Pink Ribbon Book Club will start off with an immediate objective to collect 10,000 books in the coming few weeks with your help. The books will then be sold in to raise funds for the Safe & Sound Campaign.

When & where will the sale happen? The sale will happen the first Friday of every month in Burjuman. Volunteer-in-Dubai will announce the first sale as soon as they collect enough books. (And yes – if the demand exists, this will be a permanent monthly sale.)

How much of the proceeds will be given to Safe & Sound? 100%! The funds will be used by them to continue raising awareness for breast cancer in the UAE, as well as to provide tangible support to women in the city, perhaps in the form of free mammograms.

What kind of books can you donate? They should be in good condition with no torn pages (remember, the books need to sell) 2) English will be preferred as they tend to sell better from past experience. 3) No offensive, illegal, or inappropriate books. (If you wouldn’t read it to your mother, please don’t donate it either!)
