(fondly called ‘Sensei’ meaning ‘Mentor’) Slide 2: Daisaku Ikeda's grew up during the 2nd world war, and saw the misery of common people affected by it. This youthful experience of the devastation of war instilled in him a strong yearning for peace. It is this desire that continues to inspire his activities today. Most visibly these include his frequent dialogues with leaders in various fields from around the world, his voluminous writings and his efforts to promote dialogue and exchange between diverse peoples and cultures. Slide 4: Dr. Ikeda is a prolific author, of some 100 works, published in 30 languages which range from philosophical treatises to children’s books, as well as essays on numerous subjects and poetry. Slide 5: For his humanitarian endeavors in a range of fields, he is the recipient of numerous awards, including the United Nations Peace Award Slide 6: President Ikeda has received 200 Honorary Doctorates and Professorships from universities around the world. (the most awarded to a single individual) Slide 7: Over the years, Ikeda has engaged in dialogue with many of the world's leading thinkers and leaders in search of viable responses to global problems, inspired the SGI's support of United Nations activities, and written extensively on a range of issues related to peace and the human condition.
