JURA:

JURA The Republic and Canton of the JURA also known as the Canton of Jura or Canton Jura , is one of the Cantons of Switzerland . It is the newest (created in 1979) of the 26 Swiss cantons, located in the northwestern part of Switzerland . The capital is Delémont . It shares borders with the Canton of Basel- Landschaft , the Canton of Bern , and the French département of Doubs .

JURA:

JURA Ignored by most travellers , but well loved by the Swiss themselves, Canton Jura ,in the far northwest corner of the country, is a rural gem, perfect if all you want from your holiday is to walk or cycle your way through gentle, rolling countryside and dark, fragrant forests, with only the smallest of villages and simplest of hotels. There’s only a handful of towns, but most – including the cantonal capital Delémont – have spent the last centuries sidelined, well away from heavy industry and the major currents of European history, and so have retained a graceful, historic air.

Geography:

Geography Canton Jura lies in the northwest of Switzerland . It consists of parts of the Jura mountains in the south and the Jura plateau in the north. The Jura plateau is hilly and almost entirely limestone . To the north and the west of the Canton lies France . The canton of Solothurn and Basel- Landschaft are to east of the canton, while the canton of Bern bounds the Jura to the south. The River Doubs and the river Birs drain the lands

Economy:

Economy Agriculture is important in Canton Jura. Cattle breeding is significant, but there is also horse breeding . The main industries are watches , textiles and tobacco . There is a growing number of small and middle-sized businesses. Nevertheless, it remains one of the weakest cantons economically, at only 30% of the Swiss average

Jura Bernois

Jura Bernois:

Jura Bernois Bernese Jura ( French : Jura Bernois ) is the name for the French-speaking area of the Swiss canton of Bern , and from 2010 one of five administrative divisions of the canton. Comprising the three French-speaking districts in the northern part of the canton , it contains 49 municipalities with an area of 541.75 km 2 (209.2 sq mi) and a population (as of December 2009) of 51,548 . More than 90% of the population of the three districts speak French.

History:

History Most of the territory of the Bernese Jura was passed from the County of Burgundy to the Bishopric of Basel in AD 999. It was annexed by France during the Napoleonic period , 1798-1814. In 1814, the Congress of Vienna accorded it to the canton of Bern to compensate for the loss of the new canton of Vaud . From 1815 to 1979, the term Bernese Jura also included the territory now forming the canton of Jura , which seceded following a national popular vote on 24 September 1978. Its administrative capital was Biel/Bienne from 1815 to 2009. Since 2010, Biel/Bienne has been made the administrative capital of a separate district , and the administrative capital of the remaining Bernese Jura is now Courtelary

Museums in Switzerland :

Museums in Switzerland There are more than 900 museums in Switzerland - one museum per 7500 inhabitants. Switzerland has one of the most dedicated, museum-going populations in the whole world. There are Switzerland museums that celebrate the old Swiss Confederacy, the Middle Ages and castles, technology and science, art, history, and more . Every Swiss museum is distinct in its own way, but each one has most certainly been influenced in one way or another by the cultures and traditions of the countries that border Switzerland. Some museums are dedicated to featuring the achievements and accomplishments of people born in Switzerland, while others feature works from surrounding countries such as France, Italy, and Germany, whose artists lived in and contributed to the culture and development of Switzerland.

Castles in Switzerland :

Castles in Switzerland In Switzerland there are numerous castles, noble houses and domains once built and inhabited by the upper classes. These buildings are often architectural jewels; some of them are copies of residencies of the European aristocracy. Whether they are located in rural areas or in the cities, they always enjoy a magnificent setting and are often surrounded by lush gardens. Many of these castles, if not all, are now open to the public and host museums, hotels or restaurants. Some castles can even be rented. Many castle-museums showcase the history of the surrounding region or the habitat of times long past. Some present special features or interesting collections, such as the magnificent stain glass windows at the castle of Romont , old-timer cars at the castle of Grandson, documents, books, traditional costumes and flags which illustrate the history of Poland at the castle of Rapperswil .
