This film starts with a retro styled Columbia Pictures shot. Then animated silhouettes appear a begin to dance still with the retro styled background. The shot stays the same throughout at a long shot even though it is animated. As the titles begin to appear in a plain, easy to read, very retro styled font (to fit in with the theme) the silhouettes make the font change colour as they pass behind as an opposite colour as so that it is to be obvious and stand out. The soundtrack used is called To Hot to Stop by The Bar-kays. This is a 70’s song which keeps in with the retro feel and look it is similar to music by Earth Wind and Fire or Austin Powers soundtracks. Whenever the background transitions this is simply done by a smooth slide or fade effect. Opening sequencePowerPoint Presentation: This is used like this as to engross the viewer and acts well to make them want to carry on watching. Opening Sequence The film starts very briefly with a black background and the music starts immediately through this. This is then followed by many extreme close ups making the viewer feel trapped and being made to feel uncomfortable wanting to be let out of this limited view. The writing throughout looks as though it has been sketched very hard, roughly and quickly by someone with wiry hands. This immediately indicates to the viewer that this is going to be a twisted film or perhaps a very twisted character somewhere in the plot. The viewer sees that from the close ups of the pages and the characters hands that the character and the place where they are is not well kept and he/she has no care for this fact either. The music used is very synth, this is used cleverly with high pitch notes and screeches to be made occasionally to mimic a scream. This is by Nine Inch Nails and is called Closer and although the viewer does not know this yet it is cleverly used as the artists name reflects on the grossness of this character. All these aspects make the viewer want to escape and have a long shot of this person and their surroundings.PowerPoint Presentation: This film begins with many wide shots; long shots; extreme long shots and establishing shots this all shows the openness of a city and makes the viewer feel free as though they can just escape whenever they wish. The director has used typography to create a semi translucent 3D font which looks very clean and well cut. The music runs all the way through this opening until the very end. It begins with brass and string instruments with a low tone and pitch with low dynamics until half way through when it begins to speed up and become louder. New instruments are then added as the viewer hears maracas making a ticking noise this makes the viewer feel as though there is little time remaining this is also indicating when we see the 2 shots of the trees before it cuts to the street, the leaves on all the trees are a orange/brown/yellow colour this is therefore indicating it is almost winter and that everything is coming to an end. Finally, the viewer is brought away from the serially of the city being very calm and peaceful and brought back to reality of the hustle and bustle of inner city life. This is a panning long shot of people walking down a street and the viewer is brought to the focus of two characters as the music fades out and their discussion begins. Opening SequencePowerPoint Presentation: Lord of War’s opening sequence, famously known as the life of a bullet personally one of my favourite opening sequence. It begins with a long/crane shot of a factory with the song For what its Worth by Buffalo Springfield. Which goes completely against what the viewer is seeing it turns the atmosphere of a bullet manufacturing factory into something happy and ‘toe tapping’. From this shot the viewer is taken by the crane towards one of the many machine at the very start of the bullet being made, this transitions then into a point of view shot of the base of the bullet. From here the shot stays the same along with the music. The font throughout is bold squared font as though it is a number printing onto a bullet to fit in with the war theme, this is also centred in the middle of the screen so that it is visible throughout. At the end of the sequence the viewer is placed into the chamber of a gun, shots are fired until the bullet is in the barrel of the gun. As the shot is fired the music cuts and we are still at a point of view shot with the bullet as we follow it into a young boys head. Opening SequencePowerPoint Presentation: Casino Royale begins like every James Bond film with an animated opening sequence. In this opening sequence the creators have used the casino story line to create the title sequence using the different suits of a deck of cards. For example, every time the viewer sees Bond fighting off someone every vital blow he makes to show this through animation the creators have made the bad guys break into a different suit each time they are knocked down, this shows their body breaking through animation. The soundtrack to this opening is You Know my Name by Chris Cornell. This follows the same structure of all James Bond soundt6racks with a deep bass line and loud heavy brass instruments. The shots change between mid two shots and long two shots also with some extreme close ups like on the gun that is fired in slow motion. The font used through the opening sequence is very plain and smart looking such as Bond is all the time this is why this is used. Opening SequencePowerPoint Presentation: The trailer for Thank you For Not Smoking is another animated trailer it begins with the credits being written onto mimic cigarette boxes in the style font the viewer would expect to see on a cigarette box. The music is by Tex Williams and is called Smoke Smoke Smoke that cigarette, this is clearly very fitting with the title and is the final touch to this sequence to wrap it all together. Even though this opening sequence is animated the viewer is still seeing an extreme close up all the time with a slide and twist transition to each new cigarette company with the next credits. This leaves the viewer to try and guess what cigarette company or manufacturer is being mimicked, such like the ending of the old Thunderbirds! Opening Sequence ThunderbirdsPowerPoint Presentation: Taken begins with a flashback, the viewer can tell this because of the distance and echo in the sound and voices, using this incidental sound creates this feel and makes the viewer realise that it is a flashback. Throughout this a moving Dutch tilt is used to also create the disorientation that also makes the feel of a flashback. A high saturation is placed onto the effect of the shot to make it seem to the viewer that it has just been filmed on a family hand held camera. Extreme Close-ups are also used to show the in completion of the flashback/dream. Accompanying this I a slow piano riff with the sound of twinkling high pitched chimes quietly in the background. The high pitch makes the viewer normally feel happy, however, when used here it makes the viewer feel sad although something bad has happened. It then cuts to a long shot of a man in a chair spooked awake so immediately we know that he has been the one with this flashback/dream. There is then a close-up of his faces and as he walks away there is a close-up of a picture of the girl who the viewer is presuming to be his child with the final opening credit 'Taken' which straight away gives a clue to the viewer. The font seems etched onto the screen in a bold ridged style to be made bold and clear to what is wanting to be told. A each credit fades in and out it moves across screen so to be obvious at all times. http://ch131.com/PowerPoint Presentation: The Adventureland opening sequence is only a very short one in which all the viewer sees is a black background with the title Adventureland in a font in which it looks like theme park lights, accompanied by the song Bastards of the Young by The Replacements... http://ch131.com/PowerPoint Presentation: Terminator Salvation Is another animated opening sequence through the opening sequence non-digetic music is used. Low notes and deep beats create a dark and aggressive effect. The clang of metal being hit together indicates that machinery is being used. It also has the sound of an echo from marching feet with synth creating a high to low on two notes to build tension followed by brass instruments increasing in dynamics to further increase the tension until the final drum hits. The camera shot throughout is an extreme close-up until in the final seconds it zooms out to reveal the title other than this the camera is at a constant panning shot revealing bits of each letter of the title with an animated metal finish on each. The other fonts used consist of red arrow pointing to silver blocked letters with the same colour smudged behind to create a distorted effect. http://ch131.com/PowerPoint Presentation: http://ch131.com/ This film begins with non-digetic music and a voice over, the viewer sees a long shot of fields and with the timing of the voice over a cut to of a closer long shot of a boy and his dog appears.
