DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST…. : DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST…. TRUST YOUR GUTS: Look out for men who appear freshly shaven with cuts — which could indicate a beard has just been removed or unfamiliar identification. Your instincts MUST be trusted. PERSPIRATION: Notice a person sweating especially above upper lip or on forehead when the temperature indoors is climate controlled. This is a signal of nervousness. SHAKING: When the terrorists get a sudden flash of reality they are about to die as well when they commit their final act of terrorism, their whole body reacts in the form of uncontrollable shaking. Higher risk individuals are to be well screened and referred for additional questioning and screening at the checkpoint. DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST…. : THE WALK: They walk as fast as possible without being noticeable with their eyes fixed ahead. Only thing they do is to give quick nervous glances- looking for authority figures or escape routes. They may be in a group and walk behind one another in a single file as though they are on a mission. BREATHING: A lot of upper chest breathing and sighing behavior is seen which indicates a highly emotional state. LIPS: Tight lips are seen which indicates that they are holding something back. There will usually be a lot of lip licking and lip biting during questioning to indicate they are lying to authorities. NOSE: A lot of nose scratching is prevalent due to the increased blood flow, which is the result of the autonomic nervous system taking over. The capillaries expand and cause itching. DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST…. Slide 10: FACIAL EXPRESSIONS OR LACK OF IT The facial expression will be consistent and not change. This is not normal behavior as our facial expression consistently changes. They appear to be focused on their mission. DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST…. : EYES: Avoiding eye contact with authorities reflecting fear of discovery. Wide eyed appearance shows that their end and your end is near thereby taking in every detail of their last minutes. GESTURES: Lack of gestures, unnatural hand movements, a lot of foot shuffling and nervous hand movement such as hand picking, wringing, and pulling. SELF SOOTHING: A lot of self touching or self grooming , brushing things off from the body in a vigorous manner, which is a self comforting mechanism. DETECTING A POTENTIAL TERRORIST….
