What is a tsunami : What is a tsunami A tsunami is a series of water waves caused by the displacement of a large volume of a body of water, such as an ocean or a lake. Due to the immense volumes of water and energy involved, tsunamis can devastate coastal regions. Casualties can be high because the waves move faster than humans can run. “Tsunami” is of Japanese Origin : “Tsunami” is of Japanese Origin “tsu” – meaning harbor “nami”– meaning wave What historian Greeks thought about tsunamis : What historian Greeks thought about tsunamis The Greek historian Thucydides was the first to relate tsunami to submarine earthquakes and is the subject of ongoing research.
