By the time you get them to your house you’ve already spent a few thousand dollars on them. Then there are additional accommodations that need to be made if they haven’t been made already. Along with these accommodations you have the monthly finances that will need kept up to date, as well as frequent cleanliness and general attention to keep everything a smooth operation.
Check the exact electricity requirements and power usage for any hot tub you look at so you can try and calculate how much more you will be paying per month. If you don’t need extra hot tub room, don’t buy it. They make hot tubs made for a single person. Some name brand hot tubs will be more efficient than others.
A good example of this would be Dreammakers spas; they have a dual speed heating core that will conserve energy by using a high and low speed. A Dreammaker spa will also allow you to run it constantly on a normal 110 volt circuit; you won’t need to call an electrician to install a 220-240 volt circuit in your fuse box for a larger model.
The only upgrade you might need is an outdoor wall plug for electricity. Hot tub enclosures are a great way to help conserve heat. If you live in an environment where it is snowy part of the year, your hot tub will be working harder to try and keep the set temperature for use.

If you build an enclosure, and are still using a hot tub cover, when you are using the hot tub the heat won’t escape in to the vastness of the cold air, instead it will keep only that area warm, and provide a nice little area to spend some time during those colder months.
If you do need to hire a handy man to help you install your hot tub, prepare ahead of time and try to do anything that will keep him there for less time. Electricians and other handy men are usually paid by the hour and can be quite expensive, so anything you can do before they get there to save time should be done.
For example, if your hot tub is out doors, the electrical wires will need to buried at least eighteen inches below the surface of the ground, not a hard task to accomplish and could save you an hour worth of labor. Wiring underground should be fed through a PVC pipe; you can buy this ahead of time and feed it through so it’s ready to go.
Any task you can think of that doesn’t require expertise and isn’t potentially hazardous can be done to help save you some cash that you can use to buy an extra filter or chemicals, or even pay that months electricity bill.
