Hutchinson One warm spring day I was startled by thump, thump, kerplunk and kerchunk sounds near my front door. : One warm spring day I was startled by thump, thump, kerplunk and kerchunk sounds near my front door. I was too scared to look out to see what the commotion was, soon it became closer and louder than before. : I was too scared to look out to see what the commotion was, soon it became closer and louder than before. Something was digging the weeds up that hid my front door, the weeds helped protect me from danger and the sun at midday. : Something was digging the weeds up that hid my front door, the weeds helped protect me from danger and the sun at midday. I wondered if I should stay very quiet and still and hope the digger would leave, or hop out quickly and run away. : I wondered if I should stay very quiet and still and hope the digger would leave, or hop out quickly and run away. Suddenly a long sharp steel rod was poking near my doorway, almost poking me, I feared I may die and my home, implode. : Suddenly a long sharp steel rod was poking near my doorway, almost poking me, I feared I may die and my home, implode. Shaking, I looked out, by my door was a lady on her knees looking down at me, though stunned she laughed and said “a toad”. : Shaking, I looked out, by my door was a lady on her knees looking down at me, though stunned she laughed and said “a toad”. The lady dug more weeds, later she stood up and said, “I'm done”, totally exhausted she looked at her yard with pride. : The lady dug more weeds, later she stood up and said, “I'm done”, totally exhausted she looked at her yard with pride. She then picked up a brick by the fence and placed it by my door, smiling she said, “till the weeds re-grow, this will help you hide”. : She then picked up a brick by the fence and placed it by my door, smiling she said, “till the weeds re-grow, this will help you hide”. Till that day I had feared lawn mower blades, trimmers, rakes and hoes, even the lady's dog, the yapping fool. : Till that day I had feared lawn mower blades, trimmers, rakes and hoes, even the lady's dog, the yapping fool. But that day was my worst fear of all; the lady chose a long sharp steel screwdriver to be her special digging tool. : But that day was my worst fear of all; the lady chose a long sharp steel screwdriver to be her special digging tool.
