Life Cycle Of Bean Plant :

Life Cycle Of Bean Plant EDSE 604 Philomena Vilardo

Vocabulary Review :

Vocabulary Review Germination-The stage of the life cycle, after planting, where the seeds begin to grow Pollination-the transfer of pollen from female to male plants

What is a Life Cycle? :

What is a Life Cycle? Both animals and plants each have a life cycle. Life cycles are stages in growth and development that an organism goes through, from one generation to the next.

Two Type of Plant Life Cycles :

Two Type of Plant Life Cycles Flowering Plants Germination Growth Reproduction(Photosynthesis) Pollination Seed Production Seed Dispersal Bean Plant Life Cycle Stage 1- Seeds plant.Stage 2- Plants germinate. (Germination is the growth of seeds into seedlings. It starts when seeds become active below ground and ends when the first foliage leaves appear above ground)Stage 3- Plants grow.Stage 4- Buds grow( Some beans plants do not grow flowers)Stage 5- Flowers bloom.Stage 6- Pods ripen. By a miraculous act of nature, the ripe pods spring open and "shoot" the seeds out and away from the parent plant. If the seeds fall to the ground, each may grow into a new plant. THE CYCLE STARTS AGAIN! There are also many different types of bean plants, but they all grow in a similar way.

What is a Bean? :

Beans grow in an elongated, straight or slightly curved pod. Some pods are cylindrical and some are flattened. Bean pods are usually green, but there are also yellow, purple. Some beans are grown only for the seeds within the pod, like lima beans, as shown in this picture. Other kinds of beans that are grown for their seeds include kidney, navy, and butter beans. A bean plant may be a twining vine, called a pole bean, or a shrubby plant, called a bush bean. What is a Bean?

In this lesson we will learn about the Life Cycle of a Bean Plant. Let's Begin… :

In this lesson we will learn about the Life Cycle of a Bean Plant. Let's Begin…

Step One: Planting Seed and Germination :

Step One: Planting Seed and Germination The bean seed is covered in a hard outer shell. This shell is to hold and protect the plant inside. When the seed gets water the seed inside the plant will start to grow. The young plant inside the seed starts to break the hard outer shell of the bean. When the bean starts swelling the shell will crack and the plant will start to become exposed. The roots will also being growing in the soil.

Step Two: Plants Grow and Buds Grow :

Step Two: Plants Grow and Buds Grow With the right nutrients: Sunlight, water and fertilized soil the roots will grow and a stem will also appear. The bean uses the food in the stem with the food in the seed to now continue its growth. Leaves will begin growing on the stems start reaching towards the light.

Now we will watch 2 short videos that let us see the bean seed growing into the plant stage: Video 1 - Germination Video 2 – Growing into a Bud :

Step Three :

Step Three For some plants flowers will start to grow but for many plants pods will being to emerge holding inside of them the other new seeds.

Step Four Seed Dispersal :

Step Four Seed Dispersal Pods will ripen and they then burst open falling back to the ground replanting themselves for the next generation.

Slide 15:

Many people eat beans as a source of nutrients each day. Some people also eat beans as a snack. Examples: Lima beans, greens beans, peas, etc.
