This is an educational department that was established in the early 1930s it has provide quality education for the people and children in Inez KY for the last 90 years. The Inez High School has won two state basketball championships as well continued to provide quality education experience for the people of the region.Slide 4: Current Business Operations. The workflow will be represented in a DFD, of how the business will be run. I will show the chain of command in the Flow diagram. All of the data comes from the center office, and flows down the data chart to each school. Each school has a principal that relays the information to all teacher and staff. Also, each of the follow middle schools shares data between each other as well as the data flow between each of the elementary schools. The entire request from each school follow the same data flows back to the central office. The application and systems are used to communicate to each school, and provide service to the staff, teachers, and students. Applications include Email, Microsoft Office, and Macintosh software.Slide 6: Challenges The challenge is to install a new server, some may wonder why this is a challenge, the reason is that most school districts run on a limited budget or funded by the federal government. The Central Office will have to convince the board members of the need, as well as the funding department of the federal government. Needs The need and the issue go hand in hand, the students are suffering because of the limited resources they require to be able to achieve their goal. The way to provide the need is to provide online learning services for the students. The will be accomplished by the implementation of Moodle. Introduction to Moodle Moodle is an on line program that is designed to provide learning service for High Schools and Middle Schools as well as Elementary Schools. Moodle has the ability to store users as well as learning material provided by the school system. All type of course that is required by student can be accessed through Moodle. Moodle has the ability to authenticate user by either using an internal or external database. Moodle offers LDAP function as well as FTP service to be used by the client. Moodle is an open source program that can be downloaded and used on a single workstation or server as well. Moodle offer version for Window, Linux, OSX Macintosh software formats. This software can be downloaded at www.moodle.org , which also offers a full library of uses and scenarioSlide 9: Existing NetworkNetwork at Each Site: Network at Each SiteSlide 12: System requirements + Apple Computer + Mac mini, Mac Pro or Xserve + Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 + RAM: 2 GB or better + Hard Disk: 500 MB free + System Software: Mac OS X Server 10.5 or 10.6 In order for Moodle to run correctly the mac server will need to be running PHP and MYSQL, also Moodle comes with a neat download package with MAMP to be able to run on the system. Student needs only a web browser that is compatible with Moodle preferable Firefox or Safari. Financial Requirements The financial requirements for this project will require the purchase of the Mac Server, the software is open source so no cost. Then only the actual time requirement will be paying Administrator for installing and configure Moodle on the server and the actual software itself. Time Requirements The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of the next fiscal year. This will be around June 6, 2011Slide 13: New Network Implemented Mac Mini ServerSlide 15: Network Architecture The network uses the OSPF routing protocol; this protocol was chosen because it is reliable and redundant design. The main core of the network contain several way to get to it destination; by using the described protocol, metrics can be assigned to provide the fastest path to it destination. If one path is in uses the OSPF can determine another path to the destination. This is very helpful in the event one link goes down. Listed below is the network architecture just described?Slide 17: Device Requirements Apple Computer Mac mini, Mac Pro or Xserve Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 RAM: 2 GB or better Hard Disk: 500 MB free System Software: Mac OS X Server 10.5 or 10.6 Open Directory Server / IChat Mac mini, Mac Pro or Xserve Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3/i5/i7 RAM: 2 GB or better Hard Disk: 500 MB free System Software: Mac OS X Server 10.5 or 10.6 Outlook Web Access Server in Use – Dell Power Edge 2900 Rack Server Storage Performance – Disk Drive – Raid Configuration – 1 Tara Bit Processor 64 bit Quad Core i7 processor Memory 8GB 667mhzSlide 18: Possible Threats Web Proxy Threats include outside attacks via hacker or cracker, the main core of the network will be placed behind a firewall as well as all internet traffic will behind proxy server, there will be both physical web filter and application software that will be used to direct internet traffic. Web Filter The State board of education will provide a web filter to handle all possible malware and virus that come from user that may abuse there privileges with sites that offer or host malware. Border Routers Static ACL's are used to perform ingress and egress filtering this will help aide some possible DOS attacks. Firewall There will be a proxy server running with a firewall behind the proxy server all of the Internet traffic will have to be filters through the system. The Internet link will be the only means of outside attack against the Moodle server. Moodle has Harding security build in with the software application to help protect data. T1 Line There will also be a T1 line that is already implemented that will serve as a backup to the main fiber optical cable, in the event the main line goes down the school system can still operate.Slide 19: Network ManagementSlide 20: ScheduleSlide 21: BudgetSlide 22: Agreement/Permission Form As a user of the Martin County School System communication network, I hereby agree to comply with the District's Acceptable Use Policy (full policy is in the student handbook and available online) and communicate over the network in a reliable fashion while honoring all relevant and restriction.
