A story takes place in the town based around the characters created by the students. Slide 3: Learning Outcomes Slide 4: Learning Outcomes Understanding of premises and their function Slide 5: Learning Outcomes Understanding of premises and their function Awareness of people and roles in a community Slide 6: Learning Outcomes Understanding of premises and their function Awareness of people and roles in a community Reading development through language experience Slide 7: Learning Outcomes Understanding of premises and their function Awareness of people and roles in a community Reading development through language experience Awareness of story structure. Slide 8: Step 1 Draw the streets of a small town on the flipchart The Green Slide 9: Step 2 Ask students to name the type of buildings you would find here. Add responses to drawing. The Green Shop Slide 10: Step 3 When completed make a list of buildings and ask students to copy The Green Shop Doctor Church Cinema Slide 11: Step 4 Discuss with students different people and roles in the town Ask students to choose a role for themselves, for example: Paul the Policeman. Discuss what role Paul would have in the town. Make a list of people and roles and ask students to copy. Slide 12: Step 5 Create a story based on the town and the people in it. The students make up the story and the tutor writes the story on the flipchart/board. Students copy from board. Slide 13: Step 6 Once the story is finished students can create a book using the text and pictures from magazines.
