GI BLEED SCAN :GI BLEED SCAN
Patient History :Patient History This is a 90 year old male patient who is referred for evaluation of GI bleed.
Patient Preparation :Patient Preparation Identify patient by asking his or her name
Verify with hospital bracelet
Then verify the doctor’s order
Explain the procedure
Obtain a signed consent for blood work
Instruct patient to empty bowel and bladder before beginning procedure.
Instruct patient to look for signs of bleeding.
Procedure :Procedure Patient must signed consent form to take and return blood
It must be signed by technologist and witness
In vitro method was used: extracted 2-2.5 ml of blood into heparinized syringe from patient and tagged with Ultratag
Procedure :Procedure Patient was place on the supine position
anterior abdominal dynamic images were obtain every two minutes for two hours
From bottom of the heart to lower bowel in the FOV
Patient was injected at bedside with technetium 99m pertechnetate In vitro red blood cells
Findings :Findings There is a large focus of abnormal increased red blood cell accumulation in the right upper quadrant, in the region of the hepatic flexure
Retrograde activity is seen flowing into the small bowel in the mid and left abdomen
Massive gastrointestinal bleed in the right upper quadrant with retrograde flow into the small bowel
