Region of Interest Placement and Curve Generation :Region of Interest Placement and Curve Generation By: Raymond Perez © March 13, 2006
Region of Interest :Region of Interest Commonly referred to as an “ROI”
Defined as a portion of the data field that is to be studied
Can be identified in an image as a rectangle, ellipse, or a manually drawn irregular shape
Region of Interest :Region of Interest
Region of Interest :Region of Interest ROI program usually allows the option to display or print the counts within the region, pixels within the region, and counts per pixel within the region
Most systems can allow between 16 and 32 different ROI’s to be drawn on a single image

Curve Generation :Curve Generation Counts from a Region of Interest can be used to plot a Radioactivity versus Time curve
The Activity versus Time curve is useful in evaluating the accumulation and the washout of radiopharmaceuticals in patients
Curve Generation :Curve Generation Because one can designate multiple ROI’s in one image there can also be multiple curves produced on a graph
It is very important that the curves be properly distinguished from one another and labeled correctly to correspond with their ROI
Curve Generation :Curve Generation Radioactivity / µCi Time / seconds Radioactivity versus Time
