The verbs are: ser, ir, ver. ser : ser ir : ir Slide 7: The only reason Ver is irregular is because you have to treat it like the stem is ve. Por ejemplo: veía, veías, etc. When to use the Imperfect : When to use the Imperfect The imperfect tense is another way to talk about the past. We use it to describe past actions without any indication of their beginning or end. Por ejemplo: Nadé a la piscina anoche – I swam at the pool last night. VS. Yo nadaba. – I was swimming. Slide 9: We use the imperfect to talk about actions that happened repeatedly in the past. In English we often say “used to” or “would” to express this idea. Por ejemplo: De pequeño, saltaba a la cuerda todos los días – As a child, I would jump rope every day. Slide 10: The imperfect tense is also used to "set the stage" for an event that occurred in the past. Por ejemplo: Comíamos cuando vimos un mono. –We were eating when we saw a monkey. Slide 11: You can also think of the imperfect when you see “I was” or “You were”, etc. Por ejemplo: Caminaba cuando me llamaste. – I was walking when you called me. Slide 12: Actions which are not physical, that is feelings and mental actions, usually use the imperfect tense. Estaba enfermo – I was feeling sick. Lo conocía – I used to know him. Slide 13: The imperfect is also used with age and time. Era la una. – It was one o’clock. Eran las ocho. – It was right o’clock. Tenía quince años. – I was 15 years old.
