Passé Composé with être:participe passé agrees with subject When être is used to form the passé composé, the participe passé becomes like an adjective and has to agree with the subject in gender & number. (There are some other rules concerning reflexive verbs that we’ll review later.) This doesn’t happen when avoir is used to form the passé composé. Elle est partie. Nous sommes allés. Imparfait : 

Imparfait Remember the other past tense in French: the imparfait? It gets used in special cases to mean: 1- incomplete/ interrupted action in the past someone WAS(danc)ING….. (when) 2- a habitual, repeated action in the past someone USED TO (dance)… (over & over again) 3- description or background setting in the past it was nice out, there were a lot of nice people (whether or not the main action happens or not)

Imparfait: formation It is formed by dropping ONS from the NOUS form of the present tense & adding: Je dans-ais Nous dans- ions Tu dans-ais Vous dans-iez Il/elle/on dans-ait Ils/elles dans-aient
