Skeletal System: Skeletal System Without it you would simply

Slide2: 1. The skeletal system is the framework of your body and has five major functions:
The 5 Functions: The 5 Functions a. Skeleton gives us structure and support.
b. Skeleton protects the internal organs.
c. Skeleton provides a place for muscles to attach.
d. Red blood cells are made inside bones in tissue called marrow.
e. Skeleton stores compounds such as calcium and phosphorus.
Slide4: Bone Structure: A tough outer membrane called periosteum covers bones.
Compact bone is really hard and give bones its strength.
4. Spongy bone is lightweight and located toward the ends of long bones.
Slide6: 5. Cartilage covers the ends of bones and acts as a shock absorber.
Slide8: 6. A joint is any place where two or more bones come together.
Examples of joints are:
Ball and Socket,
Hinge,
Pivot
7. Ligaments are tough bands of tissue that hold bones together at joints.
