Evaluating Websites :Evaluating Websites Trash or Treasure? "evaluate" is to Examine the VALUE of something.


True or False :True or False Anyone can publish anything on the Web. I can find an index in books and on the Web. What about online encyclopedia? I can usually tell by looking at a site if it’s a personal site or commercial site. Information on the web is of poor quality. A source that gives one point of view is poor source.

Readable :Readable Is the format clear? Do I understand the information? Linear versus non-linear Is the design good? Useful headings and subheadings Are there links to other pages? Is it easy to navigate? Can you get back to where you started? Is there Web rot? (page not found or 404)


Relevant :Relevant Does it pertain to the subject? Is the information useful? What is its purpose? Is the content good?


Recency :Recency When was it created and updated ? Is the site current ?


Reliable :Reliable Is it clear who wrote it? Who is the author? Are they an expert on the subject? Is it accurate? Can it be verified? What kind of domain?


Ask yourself :Ask yourself What is its purpose? Is it intended to sell something? What is point of view? http://www.greenpeace.org/international/ Are there personal opinions?
