Chapter One : 

Chapter One This book has many characters. Their names are little Willy, Doc Smith, Grandfather, Searchlight, and Rex. There is a problem with Grandfather, he won’t get out of bed. We think he is giving up on his life. We are not sure why. We think it has to do with their potato farm in Wyoming.

Chapter Two : 

Chapter Two This chapter was about little Willy. He is afraid that Grandfather is going to die. He is trying to find a way to save his Grandfather from death. He said he wanted to use his college money to buy a horse for rent so he can harvest the potato farm. But his Grandfather refuses to let him use his college money. He found a way to communicate with his Grandfather. He would ask him a question and Grandfather would lay his hand down for no, and up for yes. Little Willy’s dog Searchlight is a female. She is very strong dog. She is also very smart. Searchlight pulled a plow and helped save lots of money. She communicated with little Willy by slipping her head threw the harness and he knew she wanted to try to help.

Chapter Three : 

Chapter Three This chapter was about how helpful Searchlight was to his owners. Searchlight would pull little Willy 5 miles to school every day. Searchlight loves snow, so she waited the whole day for little Willy to get out of school.

Chapter Four : 

Chapter Four * Cause Effect Searchlight was * Clifford Snyder snarling at Clifford pulled his gun on Snyder. Searchlight. * Grandfather did not * Clifford Snyder pay his taxes for ten warned them they years. might lose the farm.

Chapter Five : 

Chapter Five Little Willy and Grandfather are in risk of losing the farm. Little Willy ask anyone who he thinks could help them. He has almost lost hope but he saw a poster about a dog sled race. If they won they would win $500 to save the farm and Grandfather’s life.

Chapter Six : 

Chapter Six We think that the next chapter may be about the big race that little Willy has entered. We think little Willy will be practicing very hard for this big race. He may also be thinking about Stone Foxes strategy for the race.

Chapter Seven : 

Chapter Seven On the night before the race Grandfather runs out of his medicine. Little Willy goes to get Grandfather’s medicine and runs into a old deserted barn. He sees Stone Foxes dogs and Stone Fox was surprised so he hit little Willy in the face. Little Willy told him he was going to win the race based on his determination.

Chapter Eight : 

Chapter Eight This chapter was about how the race was about to begin and how little Willy was determined to win the race. Little Willy had his eye swollen shut and he was determined to beat the big Indian Stone Fox. Everybody was nervous and did not know what to think about a little kid like him going up against a man like Stone Fox.

Chapter Nine : 

Chapter Nine This chapter is about the big race. Little Willy was first to jump off the line and be in first. He had a small sled and only 1 dog so they could turn without slowing down. Stone Fox gained up on little Willy after there was only a little bit of the race to go. The dogs were neck and neck and there is no way to know who will win this exciting race.

Chapter Ten and the Last : 

Chapter Ten and the Last This chapter was mainly about how little Willy was about to win and how much will power Searchlight put into the race. Little Willy and Searchlight were rounding the corner to the finish line when searchlight started putting all her heart into the race and bolted off and then she died in an instant with no pain. Stone Fox shot his rifle in the air, he told the other racers that if they crossed that line he would shoot. Little Willy took Searchlight and crossed the finish line. The race meant more to little Willy than Stone Fox so Stone fox let little Willy win.
