Where is Camshaft Position Sensor Placed in a car and how Replaced Camshaft Position Sensor Locating and removing the camshaft position sensor: 1. The camshaft position sensor is generally mounted in the block or cylinder head depending on engine design. 2. Separate the negative battery cable. Separate the negative battery cable and set it aside. 3. Take away the sensor electrical connector. Take away the electrical connector by pushing down on the tab and sliding it off. 4. Take out the sensor mounting screw. Remove the sensor rising screws using a wrench or ratchet and socket of the appropriate size. 5. Remove the sensor. Remove the sensor from the engine by pulling it straight out. What Does the Crankshaft Position Sensor do The crankshaft position sensor monitors the turning round of the crankshaft purposely targeting when the number one piston reaches top dead middle in the cylinder. Most crankshaft sensors are mounted just above an uneven ring on the crankshaft or on top of the flywheel. These sensors use a magnet to produce or vary an AC electronic signal that is used in conjunction with a camshaft position sensor to

determine when a position approaches to dead center on the compression stroke. In modern engines with advances in variable valve timing and direct injection the crankshaft position sensor is the most important input for the on board computer. Symptoms of a Faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor: Simply stated the car will not run. Until the on board computer receives a signal from the crankshaft sensor there will be no spark and the engine will not start. Moreover when the on board computer receives an erratic signal internal logic will understand this as a mechanical problem and it will shut down the engine to prevent any damage. The engine resolve stall out for no apparent cause. Installing the new camshaft position sensor: 1. Install the new sensor. Press on the sensor straight in and align the bolt flange with the rising hole. 2. Put in the sensor mounting screw. Install the sensor rising screws and tighten them down using a wrench or ratchet and socket of the appropriate size. 3. Reinstall the electrical connector. 4. Reinstall the negative battery cable. Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery.
