METALS AND NON-METALS:

METALS AND NON-METALS

ELEMENTS :

ELEMENTS Elements can be broadly classified into two groups Metals Non –Metals

METALS:

M ETALS Generaly metals are hard solids, lustrous, good conductors of and electricity and possess high densities. They can be drawn into wires and beaten into sheets. Some metals exhibit exceptional property, For example- mercury is a liquid and sodium is a soft solid with low density.

ZINC:

ZINC Zinc is a good conductor of electricity. Zinc is used to make GALVANISE IRON pipe and sheets to protect them from corrosion. It is used as an electrode in electrochemical cells like the dry cells.

Elements of zinc:

Elements of zinc ZINC Zinc blende ZnS Calamine ZnCO2

DISCOVERY OF ZINC :

DISCOVERY OF ZINC Date of Discovery:  1746  Discoverer:  Andreas Marggraf   Name Origin:  From the German word  zin  (meaning tin)  Uses:  metal coating, rust protection, brass, bronze, nickel  Obtained From:  zinc blende , calamine

PHYSICAL PROPERTY :

PHYSICAL PROPERTY A physical property is that the melting point is 420 °C and has a boiling point of 907 °C.

CHEMICAL PROPERTY :

CHEMICAL PROPERTY A chemical property of the zinc is that when it is burned, it's flames will become a bright bluish green.

USES OF ZINC:
