What is counseling? : 

What is counseling? Counseling is a way to be empowered. Counseling is for people who are courageously facing their fears, who want more from their life, who want to expand their lives and achieve goals both personally and professionally.

Counseling… offers a way to gain perspective on your behavior, emotions and relationships. provides a means to express your feelings and identify patterns of thinking. alleviates anxiety, depression and anger in their many forms. helps develop communication skills for dealing with conflict and frustration.

Who are school counselors? : 

Who are school counselors? A school counselor is someone who works in elementary, middle, and high schools and advocates for every child’s academic, career, college, and personal/social competencies to K-12 students. Their goal is to help students achieve success in school and become prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.

What’s the purpose of counseling? : 

What’s the purpose of counseling? School counselors work together with students, teachers, and parents to advocate for students and to promote the academic, career, personal, and social development of their students. School counselors help students to understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems. Counselors emphasize preventive and developmental counseling to enhance students' personal, social, and academic growth and to provide students with the life skills needed to deal with problems before they worsen.

Why is counseling important? School counselors help students: evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. with academic and social development problems or other special needs.

School counselors: use interviews, counseling sessions, interest and aptitude assessment tests to evaluate and advise students. provide individual, small-group, and classroom guidance to students. confer with teachers and parents to evaluate the children's strengths, problems, or special needs. make sure the curriculum addresses both the academic and the developmental needs of students. advise students regarding college majors, admission requirements, entrance exams, financial aid, and trade schools

How can counseling help our students? : 

How can counseling help our students? Counselors provide special services, including alcohol and drug prevention programs and conflict resolution classes. They also try to identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that can affect a student's development.

Final Word… Counselors consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, medical professionals, and social workers to develop and implement strategies to help students succeed.
