What is the Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP)? :What is the Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP)? Since September 2005, Overseas Nurses Programme (ONP) is the ONLY route to work as Nurse in the UK. Applicant has to be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). NMC will assess applicant’s qualifications, particularly language proficiency and work experience.

The core component of the programme is a compulsory 20-day protected learning time thru the approved educational institution (to adapt your previous education and experience to working in healthcare in the UK) that will contain study like: the structure of the UK health care system the NMC Code of Professional Conduct your personal accountability as a registered nurse A period of supervised practice will be done thru audited & approved UK Healthcare settings as part of the programme.


Overseas Nurse Programme of Southern Cross Healthcare Ltd. :Overseas Nurse Programme of Southern Cross Healthcare Ltd. 6 weeks of ONP through the University of Sunderland College of Nursing ? 2 weeks at the University and work-based training afterwards at Southern Cross Healthcare After ONP, nurse is issued the NMC PIN and can now apply for Work Permit, enabling her to work as NURSE Nurse has a contract with Southern Cross, but has the option to find work elsewhere

The NVQ prepares or trains students according to the UK minimum standards identified for competent practice. Participants are assessed in the workplace as they carry out their normal work role. They have to gain the required competencies.

As well as being currently employed in a senior role, candidates are required to have relevant nursing or social work experience in the UK Healthcare setting or have completed NVQ3 in Health and Social Care.
