2 PREFACE The purpose of this report is to explain what I did and learned during my internship period with the Hindustan Computers Limited(HCL) in the Division of TATA-SKY Repairing Center(TRC). The report focuses primarily on the assignments handled, working environment, successes and short comings that the intern did encounter when handling various tasks assigned to him by the supervisor. Therefore the report gives a number of comments and recommendations on the internship programme. It is hoped that this report would serve as a cardinal vehicle to the improvement of the internship program

HINDUSTAN COMPUTERS LIMITED(HCL) HCL is ranked 3rd most trusted IT brands in India by Brand Equity’s Most Trusted brands survey 2010 HCL was founded in 1976 by Mr.Shiv Nadar and now it is three-decade old enterprise.  HCL is an enterprise which comprises of HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems market. HCL net income was Rs 320 cr for the first quarter for the year 2009-2010 3

HCL REPAIRING CENTRE Service center are mainly distributed into Four sections:- TATA SKY Set Top Box KODAK CAMERA Desktop department for HCL & TOSHIBA Laptop Department 4

CLEANING PROCESS : 

CLEANING PROCESS The instruction for cleaning section are:- Clean STB with IPA, Colin and cloths. Physical damage and liquid damage should be checked and should be kept aside 8

QMC Process : 

QMC Process The following checkpoints should be checked. Check serial no. and NDS no. Check for Digicard detecting. Checking for rust on connectors Check for damages on panels i.e on front,Bottom and top panels 9

10 Another Checkpoints Check AUDIO with both sides. Check promo channel. Check SIGNAL strength and signal quality.

Construction of STB The construction of STB consist of following sections:- Power supply section Audio / Video section Signal Section Keypad section 11

FAULTS IN STB : 

FAULTS IN STB The STB have the following faults:- DEAD unit No Signal No Audio Signal SMART CARD FAULT 12

Repairing of Dead unit : 

Repairing of Dead unit The checkpoints and repairing of DEAD UNIT is as follows:- Check the power adaptor output(12V). Replace the faulty adaptors Check whether the voltage at particular checkpoints is correct or not if not then replace it Checkpoints include 12V at C403 5V at VR3 pin 1,C405,C404 & 3.3V at U18 and U21 13

Repairing of NO SIGNAL : 

Repairing of NO SIGNAL The checkpoints and repairing of ‘NO SIGNAL’ is as follows Check the frequency band Low band – 09750 MHz and High band – 10600MHz. Check the RF outlets (UHF/VHF OUTPUT) 14

Repairing of NO AUDIO : 

Repairing of NO AUDIO The following checkpoints should be checked:- Check AUDIO cable Check IC UA101 which amplifies the signal Check audio signal jack J2,if not proper connect to pcb ,solder it 15

Repairing of SMART CARD Fault : 

Repairing of SMART CARD Fault The checkpoints and repairing of SMART CARD FAULT is as follows Remove the main board visually inspect J1 The voltage at particular pin of IC U1 changes depending on smart card’s action 16

LIVE SOAKING PROCESS : 

LIVE SOAKING PROCESS The soaking points for STB are as follows:- Put the repair or NFF unit in live soakings for 6 hours Check for audio distortion, video freezing, reset option . If test pass, forward the STB to final testing process 17 .

FINAL TESTING PROCESS : 

FINAL TESTING PROCESS 18 The checkpoints for the process follows Check the serial no. and NDS no. Check all 10 screws Check the unit is fixed properly

Conclusion : 

Conclusion After going through these stages TATA SKY set top box(s) are dispatched from service center. The experience of working as professional employee was good. It will help me for recognizing fine opportunities in future. I am thankful to our institute for giving us such type of opportunity 20
