Looking up and to the rightA quote by the investigation conductor: “It is known that some peoples children, after they think up a false story and publicize the lies they created, are not just thought up and told as an unknown tall tale to others, But these crazies live the lie and make the better story, as the narrator sees it a reality.” :

Looking up and to the rightA quote by the investigation conductor: “It is known that some peoples children, after they think up a false story and publicize the lies they created, are not just thought up and told as an unknown tall tale to others, But these crazies live the lie and make the better story, as the narrator sees it a reality.”

Why the study and information :

Why the study and information Last night while with a friend we had a discussion on lie detector tests and their accuracy along with agencies who use them. Nothing big, but after the friend and I parted ways I got to thinking, then random searches on internet about these lie detector test. As I was about to stop reading about them. I came across a search on lying and body language. At first it all seemed irrelevant due to the fact that I believe most signs will be affected by other things like mood or how they feel, are they sick, ect...Until I came across “looking up and to the right” this caught my attention because I did this during a lie while deployed to Iraq, and a Sergeant stated, “ I know you are lying, people always look up and to the right when they lie.” In fact I did look up and to the right. Now obsessing over a slight possibility that it may be a real indicator of a liar, I am out to find some truth. As some believe in this gesture to be true in telling if someone is lying, most seem to deny any evidence that it works. I will give facts and observations for everyone who reads to make their own conclusion....Is it true if you witness the individual in question give a response while looking up and to the right, that this is a red flag for a lie? Lets find out.....I will be using four children for a percentage study. One adult also for thought candy.

Facts Found online from several websites :

Facts Found online from several websites Up and to the Left Indicates: Visually Constructed Images (Vc)If you asked someone to "Imagine a purple buffalo", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Constructed" a purple buffalo in their mind. Up and to the Right Indicates: Visually Remembered Images (Vr)If you asked someone to "What color was the first house you lived in?", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Visually Remembered" the color of their childhood home.

Slide 4:

To the Left Indicates: Auditory Constructed (Ac)If you asked someone to "Try and create the highest the sound of the pitch possible in your head", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Constructed" this this sound that they have never heard To the Right Indicates: Auditory Remembered (Ar)If you asked someone to "Remember what their mother's voice sounds like ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they "Auditorily Remember " this sound. Down and to the Left Indicates: Feeling / Kinesthetic (F)If you asked someone to "Can you remember the smell of a campfire? ", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they used recalled a smell, feeling, or taste.

Slide 5:

Down and To the Right Indicates: Internal Dialog (Ai)This is the direction of someone eyes as they "talk to themselves". !!!! (NOTE) Some scientists believe that when a person is lying they look up and to their right..... Looking up and right is a sign of using imagination for a VISUAL remembrance !!!!!!(Some Scientist and other believers think when not telling the truth they are using the part of the brain that uses this kind of imagination to construct the tall tale. Therefore indicates some degree of fiction) Looking just right indicates imagination for an AUDIO remembrance.

Questions and Cues for the test subjects :

Questions and Cues for the test subjects Until I say stop imagine a blue kitty cat. What color was the first house you lived in? Think about the highest pitch scream possible until I say stop. Remember what your grandmothers voice sounds like until I say stop. Can you remember the smell of a campfire? (think of the smell) Talk to yourself about anything out loud until I say stop.

How the investigator views personality and considerations on tested subjects. “brief back rounds and getting to know the kids” :

How the investigator views personality and considerations on tested subjects. “brief back rounds and getting to know the kids” Christine, age 12 doesn’t like to come out of her room. A hermit . In her 12 years of life she has always been imaginative. Excellent artist. Otherwise smart just “alone”. Also lives on the computer! Misunderstood. Very Caring and considerate. Bill, age 8 has severe AD/HD (attention deficit hyper activity disorder. )Over exaggerates in his personal situations. Lives on x box 360. Likes violence. Known to be the best liar of the other 3 listed! (example: with a serious, whiney, pathetic and believable voice he will say he didn’t get lunch at school, he was so believable parents called school on the occasions until they realized he was an excellent bullshitter. These kinds of stories still come from him and are at times believed.) The boy who cries wolf. “hmm. this kid may possibly have some odd results.” Mike, age 6 is the family brat. Spoiled even. if he doesn’t get his way he knows how to work it to get it. Plays parents. VERY LOUD and mean to other kids. Tells parents and siblings as well as other kids he hates them just to get a reaction. Pushes buttons. Tries to lie but sucks at it. Tells mom he loves her or other nice things to get what he wants in a very creative way.

Slide 8:

Joe, age 4 is mostly a sweet heart. Very caring and cuddly. Cries from guilt when he does wrong. Sensitive about emotions. However he tests one brothers patience (Mike) Gets a kick out of irritating him. Likes to imitate everything this brother does, and when it irks Mike he gets a kick out of it and thinks its funny. A consideration to take with Joe in his young age. Not sure, results may be inconclusive due to the fact that young children can’t always distinguish the difference between imagination and reality. Summing Joe up, I am eager to see his results in comparison ...And just for result comparison to children I will use 1 adult guinea pig .... Autumn, age 29 also has ad/hd but knows how to control it. Seems nice, bitchy only if bugged in situations that need high concentration. (Next 5 slides Are answers and observations of instructions/questions given on slide 3)

Christine :

Christine 1.Eyes went to right, slowly down, then back to making eye contact. 2. Eyes moved to the right for a few seconds the back to eye contact while she answered. 3. Broke from eye contact to eyes left twice. 4. Blank stare, even though she was looking at my eyes, she had a definite dazed stare as if day dreaming. No eye movement at all. 5. Eyes moved up then they rolled slowly left. 6. Eyes moved to the right. -Christine had half of all claimed steps right, 2 of them were definitely not as told they would be, and one of them was inconclusive do to the blank stare as if stuck in a day dream, with no eye movement at all.

Bill :

Bill 1. Eyes moved to a left position, forward, then to the left with many repeated blinks. 2. Both right and left. I didn’t noticed a favoritism for either side. 3.Eyes moved right only. 4. Eyes held down with a slight right angle 5.Eyes moved only to the left position. 6. Eyes moved to both left and right sides but significantly favored the right side. 7. When asked this extra question to tell me his blue yogurt was red, his eyes moved to a slight right. -Bill had more eye positions that coincide with claims than ones that did not, so it will still be favored as to proof of the human lie detection belief.

Mike :

Mike 1.Eyes went immediate up then rolled to the left. His eyes then made eye contact with mine and back to just looking left. Twiddled his thumbs during this. 2. As he appeared to be thinking his eyes rolled up then left, he held for a second. As he answered his eyes coincided as to shoot as if startled by an object in an up and to the right position until his answer was complete. 3. Eyes rolled down, then rolled left, as time passed he seemed bored and eyes went to right, then forward then to right again. 4.Eyes went to slight right then up in to a slow rolling left. 5. Eyes to right, then slight ups and downs. 6.Refused, while I tried to convince him his eyes stayed in contact with mine, He looked at me as if I was nuts. 7. When asked this extra question, I asked Mike to tell me he was wearing a shirt when he had no shirt on. He refused to answer, but while in thought of the false statement his eyes went to the right side. 8. Outside of the observation, Mike was caught lying today, while he was thinking of his lie to make me believe him, he had a distinct eyes right.

Joe :

Joe 1.Dazed straight stare. As if daydreaming. 2.Right then up, then to the left for a brief moment and responded with eyes in contact with mine. 3.Eyes went down then rolled to the right. 4.Eyes looked up then to the left. 5.eyes wandered to the right and rolled down. 6.Looked left as he appeared to be thinking. Then stated in a fake horse voice that he could not talk. 7. When asked this extra question to tell me his brown shirt was blue, He first looked to see the real color then look to the right and then up as he told of the false colored shirt.

Autumn :

Autumn 1. Eyes moved to left. 2. moved right, right up, right down. 3. Eyes moved downward in a right angle, then upwards in a right angle. 4. Eyes left 5. Favored a slight right position. 6. Eyes left -Autumn only had two which weigh claims stated. The claim which puts fact in to being a real human lie detector however, is the claim we are trying to prove or disprove. She too has given this to be a real lie detecting truth. She had very distinct right eye directions only.

The observation :

The observation I started the first session with Mike, age 6. Told him I was going to ask him things and to look at my eyes as much as possible. I noticed right off the bat that he appeared to feel awkward at this approach. Wanted to avoid eye contact quit a bit, I think now he may have mostly just been moving his eyes to random directions to avoid trying to keep eye contact. Just a few of the movements appeared to be part of the thinking process during answers and not many plain thought ones. Joe, age 4 was second. He didn’t seem interested much, and didn’t have much eye movement during thought initiations I had to give more time than with Mike to get something. He may not have really understood what was being asked on them. If so to limited extent. Both Mike and Joe I would claim inconclusive if they were the only children tested. For the fact of how young they are and the comprehension levels for their ages. However both predicted facts for second prompt/question did coincide with the predicted results listed. As an added test, I asked Joe to tell me his brown shirt was blue in the false statement he repeated after looking down to see the real color his eyes did go right then up. Then asked Mike, he would not repeat false statements I asked him to say but did think about them while looking right.

The Observation continued.. :

The Observation continued.. That indicates so far that telling tall tales the eyes are in a right or right/up position. I am curious if the older kids will be a more clear or defined eye position preference will being observed....... Bill now slightly older and some time later. Had 4 of the predicted eye positions observed. According to the “Eyes right and up” claim Bills eyes did not favor right or left in any way. His eyes wandered both ways. However question 7 the added question, his eyes were observed favoring right side and up position. Though the original question showed no sign of a true claim this time. The false statement given produced eyes to right. Christine made half the claims stay factual, she had two that were not a match to claims in any way, and one which was inconclusive. The ones that gave weight to their claims were very distinct and not any other eye directions other than what they were said they would be. As too human lie detecting she too is a contributor to the claim. Autumn had only 2 giving weight to claims of eye movement. One of which is the claim that favors the proof that we can be human lie detectors.

Conclusion :

Conclusion The conclusion is a fact, you can tell by eye movement if someone is lying. The gathered evidence received from my test subjects has shown this human lie detector test based on watching eye movements using 5 test subjects (4 kids,1 adult) is consistent with the claim of using eye movements to tell if someone is lying. To back the accuracy, Mike was supposed to make a sandwich for Joe. I knew he didn’t but asked him later if he did. He had a small grin, eyes went straight right while he thought about how he was going to tell me he did, as he was about to answer with a lie I interfered by telling him I knew he didn’t. When looking for lies pay close attention to eye position and eye preference to sides/positions. If you are unsure believe it is the truth. Do not look for the lie so much that you disregard other positions and accuse. My observation results were an obvious lie when the party is guilty. When the person is lying there is a definite and noticeable eyes right.
