Welcome back to Meet the Mendels! :Welcome back to Meet the Mendels! When we last left off, Asimov, the heir, had decided not to go to college, and instead stay at home to work on his robotics. Leonardo and Curie, the twin spares, had gone to Uni. Leonardo had signed up to participate in a Bachelor Challenge, and Curie married her college love Dawson Platz. They had twin children, Portia and Morning. Galilei and Benny had seen Keanu and Sheldon off to college, and had decided to adopt a child.
Einstein was still missing. But where could he possibly be?
Part 1 of 2
Slide 2:“So, let me get this straight. You want me, your best friend who you created in your neighborhood against her will, to take care of your spawn for you while you try to find Mel?”
“Well, when you say it like that, it sounds so… bad… But yeah, that’s basically it.”
“What’s in it for me?”
Slide 3:“Ah, come on Savanna, you’re my best friend. And… of us two, do you REALLY trust me with small children?”
“You’re trusting ME with small children?! Come on, Regina, you know better than that!” Savanna was apprehensive about the task, and Regina understood why. But she trusted no one more than she trusted Savanna.
“Well, they’re kids now though, which makes your job that much easier. Look, Fadey already managed to get them there without much grief, thank Wright for a family sim, but…”
“You’re worried about her finding them, aren’t you?”
“You know as well as I do that simself children are special. And simself legacy children are just…”
“Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, we’ve been over this before.”
Slide 4:“So, will you do it? I mean, I know you have this vendetta against Darwin and all, but it would mean a lot to me, and-”
“Just because it’s you, Regina, I’ll do it. Plus, if I don’t you’ll kill me off. I’m not stupid. I know what you’re capable of when you get in that omnipotent zone….”
“Yay! Okay, so I’ll drop them off at your place later today. They’re really good kids, they shouldn’t give you much trouble, but if they refuse to skill, tell them that I’ll come after them and-”
“I got it, I got it. Don’t you have somewhere to be?”
Slide 5:“Yeah, you’re right, I’ve got that meeting like I told you…. Hopefully, she’s here. Marcus should know. He’s manning the desk, right?”
“He was last I checked. But you know how easily distracted he gets…”
“True, true. I’ll go check and see if he’s here. Thanks so much again, for doing this. I promise, you won’t regret it!”
“Sure…”
Meanwhile, at the front desk… :Meanwhile, at the front desk… “Um, hello, is this the simself headquarters? I’ve just arrived, and Regina said she had something special for me to do…?” A young woman asked, walking up to the strange man dressed like a ninja, who seemed captivated by his computer.
“Just give me one minute. I’m about to beat this level….”
Slide 7:Looking up, Marcus was surprised. “Oh, you’re here early. I’ll just… go get Regina.”
He walked into the hallway to find Regina and Savanna deep in a conversation about… sandwiches. “Now, Lenin loves her peanut butter and jelly, she’s not a big meat person… but even Trotsky is picky about meat, he’s really only a turkey kind of soul-”
“Ahem,” Marcus cleared his throat, as obviously, he had failed to get the attention of the two women when he had walked into the room.
“Oh, Marcus. We were just talking about you. What’s up?”
“She’s here…”
“Oh. Thanks buddy. I’ll just go talk to her.” She looked pointedly at Savanna. “And after I’m done, I’ll be back to talk to you about coffee. Those two have some strict rules about it…”
Slide 8:Regina found that Marcus had been right, and upon entering the room, she found herself face to face with the person she had been expecting.
“Hey, it’s so nice to see you here. I hope you like deserts all right…” Regina chuckled. “How was your trip?”
“Oh, well, you know how interdimensional travel goes. But, you said that it was important, so here I am.”
“Oh, it is important. There’s something that only you can do for me.”
“What’s that?”
Slide 9:“How would you like to be in my legacy?”
****
Slide 10:“How could she have done this to me?” Savanna grumbled as she worked in the greenhouse in an attempt to avoid the puddle splashing children outside the home. She had been living with Regina’s kids for all of 3 days, and already, she was fed up. Her only assurance was that childhood only lasted for several days in the sims 2, but for Savanna, it felt like an eternity.
Slide 11:It wasn’t that they were bad children, it was just that… they were too much of their mother for their own good. And two little mini Reginas in child form living with Savanna quickly became something that Savanna would associate to her own little personal hell.
Slide 12:Honestly, Lenin, I don’t think she likes us very much. I mean, we’ve been here for a while, and the longer we’ve been here, the more she seems like she might be… avoiding us.”
“Nah, you’re just hallucinating. She loves us, she just doesn’t want to admit it. She’ll be lonely without us around, you just wait and see. She’s gonna hate it when we go off to college.”
Slide 13:Oh the two children, Lenin got more of the character quirks of Regina. She was a good kid… she was just a little hard to manage. She was an awful lot like her father Darwin as well, although she knew nothing about him. She just knew that he didn’t need to know about her yet, and she was willing to keep the secret for the good of the family.
Trotsky got more of the mild characteristics of his family. He was smart, and was born with a scientist’s mind. He was knowledgeable, and was the only one would could keep his silly sister out of trouble.
Slide 14:But, despite their differences, the twins loved each other very much, and each found it hard to be without the other. One complimented the other, and they couldn’t be separated.
Slide 15:But, really, despite all of Savanna’s complaining, the two were good children. When she asked, they would go to bed. When they needed to, they would skill. They were fairly easy to take care of, even if Savanna, who was no chef, had to figure out how to make a meal or two. And avoid phone calls from Darwin who, being a popularity sim, desperately wanted some friends.
Slide 16:Of course, me being the nice omnipotent voice that I am, I let Savanna have some fun too. I let her make friends with the local wolf pack.
And, surely I never intended for her to get bitten. Noooo…… I wouldn’t do that.
“Oh shit.”
Slide 17:“Regina, I’ve told you this before, but… as a god, I really really don’t like you very much.”
Eh, don’t worry about it, I get that a lot. Just hurry up and turn hairy so I can make fun of you. ;)
Slide 18:“Hate you.”
Love you! ^_^ Just think, now you can be a guard dog for the children!
“You’re so rude…”
Slide 19:And, I mean, it’s not like you don’t turn back to normal in the morning, so I don’t really see why you’re fussing so bad. I’m sure it’s not horrible having your hunger drop down to near starving every night after dark, or to become a hairy beast that howls.
Besides, you’re a knowledge sim. You WANTED that.
Which is why, to a certain extent, I don’t really understand knowledge sims.
Of course, I am one, so… *shrug*
Slide 20:Of course, kids grow up fast, and the children of a simself are no exception. So, Trotsky invited over Fadey, who had been more of a parent to him than either of his biological parents, and he was there to watch the children grow into teenagers.
Slide 21:Trotsky, as had always been Regina’s hopes, became a knowledge sim. He was one of the few knowledge sims of the Mendel family (his cousin Sheldon is the only other one I can think of).
Slide 22:But Lenin wanted to be like the father she had never been able to know. She became a young woman who strived for popularity. And because of that, the twins continued to compliment each other.
Slide 23:But with growing up came a whole new level of responsibilities. It was time for Savanna to have a conversation with the two of them.
“Alright, so you two know that you’re legacy spawn, as well as simself spawn, correct?”
“Duh, Aunt Savanna, we’ve known that since we were toddlers. You and our mom have been spewing that junk on us since we were kids.”
Trotsky stayed quiet. He was much more reserved than his sister.
Slide 24:“Well, that’s only because it was important. Look, I know there’s a weird scene behind me with your step father transformed into a werewolf and Vito being… well, Vito, but I need you two to listen. You two are here for a specific purpose. You’re going to help your mother with this legacy.”
“Well, that was a given. I had the feeling she wasn’t just feeling like wanting children…”
Slide 25:“In order to help Regina, you two have to be able to understand what it means to be the children of a legacy and a simself. You’ve got the blood of a legacy, which is blood that is now dangerous, as it means that Mel’s going to be after you.”
“So, we’re going to have to stay low then?”
“Yes, but… as you’re the children of a simself, you also have more power than you normally would. You have… boolprop.”
Slide 26:“Boolprop?” Trotsky asked. The term had piqued his interest. He had heard of this strange phenomenon called boolprop, but he had never known much about it.
“Yeah, boolprop. Boolprop testingcheatsenabled true, or something like that. It’s something that we call in my home dimension… a ‘cheat code.’”
“Well, what can you do with it.”
“You can basically… manipulate anything in the sim world with it. Within reason, of course.”
“Any other… cheats?”
“Well, I think Regina said you would have access to insim and motherlode, something that legacy sims don’t normally have. Spares get motherlode, but insim…. That’s a whole new ballgame.”
Slide 27:“But you two have to be careful with your hacks and cheats. You can’t just go around the neighborhood all willy-nilly. There are rules, in this world, that you have to abide by. Regina told me to make this perfectly clear. You can’t interfere with the legacy as much as possible. While it’s your family, and the heir is your half-brother, you can’t help them, unless…”
“Unless?”
Slide 28:“Unless Mel gets involved, alright? And in no way must you tell them who you are. They can’t know that you’re Darwin’s children. Darwin himself must never find out. It’s very important that we don’t disrupt the world order. Mel isn’t supposed to be here, so it’s okay to stop her, but beyond that-”
“We can’t get involved,” Trotsky finished for her. “It makes since, Aunt Savanna. But… why tell us now?”
Slide 29:“Because you kids have to leave for college tonight. There’s no more time that you can waste. You have to go watch the rest of generation 3 in college. It’s important that they are protected. Even though the spares are the ones going to college now, it is important that you two watch them. We never know how Mel is going to strike next. We haven’t heard from her in quite some time, and Regina thinks she’s planning something.”
“So, we have to leave right now?”
“It’s very important that you go tonight. There’s no time to loose. I’ve called the taxis for you. You’ll be gone within the hour.”
Slide 30:“We’ll be coming back to meet up with you and mom, though, right?”
“Of course. After college, you’ll be meeting with us in the main simself headquarters. Then, you’ll be given individual tasks relating to the protection of the Mendel family. Of your family.” She paused as her sensitive canine ears picked up a taxi outside. “You two have to be quick now, you’ve got to get going. I’ll be seeing you shortly. College goes by quickly, don’t worry.”
She hugged each of them goodbye as they walked briskly out the front door. They didn’t have a lot of time to waste, so they cut their goodbyes shorter than they would have liked.
Slide 31:The two made their ways outside, and boarded the taxis, making their way off to their new college life.
****
Slide 32:At the main house, Baxter and Bootsie were being cute little puppies. I just love puppies. They’re adorable <3.
Slide 33:Bebe was being as lazy as ever. She really enjoyed sleeping with Asimov in the room he had inherited from his grandparents.
Slide 34:And the cocker spaniels were being as mean as ever. With five dogs in the house, I was going pretty crazy. As soon as the puppies grew up, one of them would be going to the pound, as much as I like keeping them.
Slide 35:Asimov was still working on his biggest project yet. It wouldn’t be long before he was an adult, and, with his big ambitions, he planned on having this done before that even happened. It helped that he was constantly in the zone after maxing his tinkering enthusiasm, and eventually, he indeed finished his project.
Slide 36:It was something that no one on Oddity had ever seen before.
Slide 37:But before Asimov turned on his latest invention, he made sure he went out to have some fun first. He wanted to be able to remember turning on his creation as his last great feat before he became an adult.
He met a strange glowing woman at a community lot, who made the sky glow and made him feel very happy, for some peculiar reason.
Slide 38:And she brought along a friend with her.
Slide 39:All in all, in those last days, he just chilled out like a teenager. He ate takeout and just laid back.
Slide 40:Kendra, unlike her lazy son, actually worked. She had found a new hobby in flower arrangement, and was gaining badges fast. Which means snapdragons for me!
Slide 41:Darwin… well, it was obvious where Asimov got his attitude on relaxation from. He hung out in the hot tub, figuring he might as well then while he still looked good in his swim suit. He didn’t have much longer to be an adult.
Slide 42:Looking at his invention, Asimov couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming pride well up in his chest. This was what he had put his heart into. It was something that no other sim had accomplished in Oddity, much less a teenager. He had done it. He had made artificial life.
Slide 43:He plugged in the data, and initialized the “creature” as male. He had placed the positronic operating system in. Now all he had to do was wait for it to start up. It did not take long.
Slide 44:“Mechanical Organism of Robotic Technology, at your service, Master Asimov.” The voice wasn’t obviously mechanical. It spoke in a flawless accent, but if one listened closely enough, only then could one hear the slight robotic sound to the voice.
“Alright, man, you’re going to have to stop talking like that. Firstly, you need a better name than all that. I’m thinking… Morty!”
“Name of MORTy initialized, Master Asimov.”
Slide 45:I can’t help but put it in. It’s a PUPPY. It’s CUTE…
Slide 46:Leroy’s ghost also made an appearance, but with some weird bulgy eyes. He looks totally freaky *shudders*.
Slide 47:As for Darwin? Well, he met with old age, and it seemed to be encouraging him into a… kilt. So I sent him to go wear something more appropriate.
Slide 48:With glasses, gray hair, and a sweater, Darwin felt like he looked very sophisticated. I think so too. Good job, Darwin.
Slide 49:Morty was making life easy for the family. He was always cooking food and cleaning, which meant that the family hardly ever had anything to do. It was a big change from the days when Darwin was a child and had to take care of himself as well as his younger siblings, but in no way was he complaining.
Slide 50:“Master Darwin, is there any way in which I might be of service?”
“Oh, no, Morty, that’s okay. And you don’t have to call me Master. Darwin will do just fine.”
“That is not in my protocol, Master Darwin. I am the family’s personal butler. You are a master.”
Slide 51:“I’d prefer to think of myself as a friend instead, Morty.”
“What is a… friend, Master?”
Darwin laughed heartily at the robot. He laid his hand on the cold, metal shoulder. “Come, Morty. You have much to learn about what it means to be a sim…”
Slide 52:While Darwin found himself entertained by Morty, Asimov found enjoyment in another way. He had found who he was sure would be his wife when he became an adult and began his reign of the legacy.
Slide 53:Her name was Lala.
Slide 54:She got along with Asimov, and, even better, with his family. Kendra loved her a lot, and was anxious for her to marry in to the family. But… I told her to stop talking, just in case she scared her away.
*Lala is the simself of LalaH16, as she is known on boolprop.com and S2WG. She is the author of the now discontinued Truly Madly Deeply legacy, in which my simself was married to Fadey, who you also see in Meet the Mendels!.
Slide 55:And Morty got to researching what Darwin had requested. He began his long study on what it meant to “be” a sim.
Slide 56:Kendra celebrated her birthday the next day, which meant that Asimov’s would be the day after. While the family was excited to see Asimov ready to age up, Kendra and Darwin were both irritated that it meant that they would have to get older as well.
Slide 57:There were many Mendel birthdays in the house over those next few days. Bootsie and Baxter transitioned into exact clones of their mother. So, that means it’s time for one of them to go, because there’s no way I’m dealing with half of my sim slots being taken up by dogs.
Slide 58:Bootsie says goodbye to the family to go live with Galilei’s family. Baxter will stay with the family to keep the bloodline going.
Slide 59:Asimov kept calling Lala. He knew what they had would be more than friendship, and when he grew up today, he’d be able to be with her. So, he made sure to invite her over for his big transition.
Slide 60:And he turned out… pretty incredible. All you Azzy fan girls beware! He’s hot!
Slide 61:Of course, he’s also taken. With an adjustment of turn ons and turn offs, Asimov and Lala got along splendidly. Their romance was a quick one, and although Lala wasn’t sure she could trust him completely as a pleasure sim, he was too handsome for her to resist. And so she fell blindly into love.
Slide 62:He even got to share his first kiss with her.
Slide 63:And it came the day for the wedding. The whole family came, but Asimov was especially happy to see Leonardo. He hadn’t seen his younger brother since he had gone off to college, and he hadn’t been able to talk to him since the bachelor challenge had started. It was a comfort to see him and the rest of the extended family home.
Slide 64:Asimov was anxious, so he didn’t waste any time getting to that wedding arch and putting the ring on Lala’s finger. He was a pleasure sim, it was true. But he was a pleasure sim in love.
Plus, as soon as she moved into the house, they could woohoo as much as he wanted. Which was always a bonus for a pleasure sim.
Slide 65:And with that, it was done, although no one could tell if Galilei liked Lala, or if she wanted to beat her up. Or if there was any difference between the two choices, what with Galilei’s one nice point.
Slide 66:And woohoo they did, until the voice was satisfied with the lullaby that could not be heard over the splashes.
Slide 67:And, it’s not a Mendel party until Galilei pisses someone off. She picked on Dawson the whole party.
Slide 68:Which surmounted in a nasty fight that Galilei came on top on. Sorry Dawson. D: That must be embarrassing.
Slide 69:But, the slightly disastrous wedding party was over eventually, which meant time that Asimov could spend with his beloved wife. Little did he know that she had something important to tell him.
Slide 70:“Azzy, you know I love you, and all, and because of that, there shouldn’t be any secrets between us.”
“Yeah, that makes since… Have anything you want to say?”
“Well, y-”
Slide 71:“Ummmppphhhh….”
Pulling her into a smooch, Asimov just wanted some loving. But, he’s a male, what do you really expect. ;)
Slide 72:“Asimov, really, there’s something I’ve got to tell you,” Lala laughed, pulling herself from the kiss.
He just laughed at her. “Is it really that important that you have to tell me now? Can’t we just be together?”
“I really think you should know…” she looked hesitant now.
Slide 73:“Alright then, what?”
“Morty… I’m pretty sure he has bio sensors, right?”
“Yeah, but what’s that have to do with anything?” He was puzzled, but he kept the same goofy grin on his face.
“Well… he told me that… he thinks I’m…”
“Yeah?”
Slide 74:“…Pregnant, Az. He thinks that I’m pregnant. And… I think I might be too.”
“Really?”
“…Yeah…”
Slide 75:“That’s great!” He exclaimed, holding her close and pulling her into a hug. “I mean, this is a legacy after all, so, the sooner we get to having kids, the better.”
“I’m so glad you’re happy! For some reason, I thought with you being a pleasure sim, you wouldn’t want a baby.”
“…Er… No. Why would you think that?”
Slide 76:The truth was, Asimov was far from happy that his wife was pregnant. In fact, he was quite apprehensive about it.
There’s no way she’s pregnant… not after just a few times… Nah… I’ll have to check Morty’s sensors, they must be off. He tried reassuring himself with these thoughts as he worked on robotics, something he hadn’t bothered with since Morty had been completed.
But… even if she is pregnant… there’s no way I could make a good father…
Slide 77:I mean, how could I ever be a good dad? I’m a pleasure sim… Filled with self-doubt, he continued work on the small project. Nah, she’s not pregnant, she’s just tricked herself into thinking she is.
Slide 78:Finished with the project, and satisfied with his thoughts, he looked down at the toy robot and smiled. It reminded him of when he was a child. But then… his thoughts wandered back to his wife, and he was discontent. He would just have to wait until her pregnancy was confirmed.
Slide 79:But he placed the robot in the nursery, just in case.
****
Slide 80:Darwin, with nothing better to do, had dived into the arts. He had become quite a skilled painter.
“Just a little more, and then…”
Slide 81:“Tada! Now that’s a portrait.”
The portrait of Lala had been finished. Now, there needed only to be one painted for Asimov.
Slide 82:And Kendra, despite Morty’s complaining against it, still managed to find time to cook for a hobby. Looks good, Kendra, what are you making over there?
Slide 83:Hm, looks- oh no. Oh no oh no oh no… Kendra… put the cheesecake down, please…
Slide 84:“Hey, this is some good cheesecake, Azzy,” Lala commented as the family sat down and ate dessert.
*Sigh* Well, it’s not like I fought it. And, if all goes according to plan, this will be the only pregnancy they have, so… I’ll just have them grown up in one shot, which is easier.
So long as Asimov doesn’t shoot me, I’ll be fine.
Slide 85:There goes the cheesecake!
I wouldn’t be sticking my head so close to that… ew…
Slide 86:And Darwin was happy to get his son’s portrait done. I’m quite pleased with this one, I like his expression and his robot.
Slide 87:And so begins the reign of Asimov and Lala!
Sorry about the stairs… that’s just… where they are…
Slide 88:And Lala found that she and Morty had been right about the pregnancy. She was showing and had the glow about her.
Slide 89:This proved to just stress Asimov more, as he found he needed to slip to the small garden at the back of the lot in the middle of the night and unwind. He had a lot to think about and not an overwhelmingly long amount of time to do it.
Slide 90:How the hell am I gonna be a dad? He asked himself silently. I can hardly remember to feed myself… I’ll never be able to keep track of a kid…
Slide 91:He was so distraught that he took no notice of the soft footsteps approaching.
“Asimov.”
He looked up in surprise at the voice.
Slide 92:“D-dad?! What are you doing out here? You startled me?”
“I could ask you the same thing. Now, are you going to tell me what all this is about, or do I already know, Az?”
“That depends. What do you think it’s about?”
“The baby.”
“Well, then, I guess I don’t have to tell you. Satisfied?” He spat out.
Slide 93:“I’m not sure what’s wrong with you, Asimov, but if you’re scared about being a father, you shouldn’t be. You have no reason to be?”
“Dad, I’m a pleasure sim. We don’t make good parents.” He stated plainly, rising from his seat and walking across the garden to his father.
“Your sister is a pleasure sim, and she raised twins with only the help of her husband. And you’re much more responsible than Curie. And you have additional help. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“How do you know that?”
Slide 94:“Because… I was scared when I became a father too. I didn’t know how good I would be…”
“But dad, you practically raised your siblings when you were a teenager. There’s no way you should have been scared to be a dad.”
“But you saw what happened to my brother. And that isn’t reassuring when you’re raising a child and twin toddlers.”
Slide 95:“I… I guess that’s true. But…”
“I’m a popularity sim, Asimov. While your mother may be a family sim, I’ve seen better parents with the pleasure aspiration. My parents had the most child-friendly aspirations there are, and they weren’t spectacular parents.”
“But dad… how do I know that I’ll make a good father to my children?”
Slide 96:“It’s just… something you know. Here, let’s sit down. There’s a lot of stuff about this legacy that we need to talk about.
****
Slide 97:“You know, my father sat down with me like this right after you were born, Asimov. He talked to me about the legacy, and told me what our purpose is. I told him that I would tell my heir when the time was right. It’s time to tell you now.
“You’ve got a gift with robotics, Asimov, it’s really true. You have to use that gift for the good of the legacy, though. You’ve already done much of that. But… I need you to devote some of Morty’s activities to the research I was doing when you were young.”
Slide 98:“You mean the research on our DNA?”
“Yes. I came close to answers, but I never quite got there. It’s research that will take longer than my life, longer than the lives of many of us. But we need to get answers. Our race depends on it Asimov. I already explained most of it to you a long time ago. But… use Morty to your advantage. He can be quite useful for the storing of data.”
“I intend it. Thanks, Dad. But can I ask you about something?”
Slide 99:“Can we just talk, now? I feel like… we haven’t really talked in a long time.”
“Of course, Asimov, of course.”
And so, they talked late into the early morning.
Part one ends here, just because I think it’ll be easier on the readers if 3.1 is in two parts. Go check out part 2!!!
