The Parts of FILE NAME : The Parts of FILE NAME The FILE NAME consist of the NAME and EXTENSION separated by a DOT For Example, the filename RESUME.DOC has RESUME as the name and DOC as the extension. FILE EXTENSIONS : FILE EXTENSIONS FILE EXTENSIONS (cont’d) : FILE EXTENSIONS (cont’d) Directories and Folders : Directories and Folders Directories, are also called folders, used to hold documents, files and even other folders. Directories and Folders (cont’d) : Directories and Folders (cont’d) A folder is similar to a manual filing cabinet, in that one drawer of the cabinet (representing one folder) can contain further folders, rather than merely files or documents directly. This allows your folders in almost any way you want. Creating a Folder (METHOD 1) : Creating a Folder (METHOD 1) To create a folder on the desktop Right click the mouse in any clear area on the desktop When the pop-up menu appears select New. Select Folder from the menu that appears A folder icon appears on the desktop and you can give it a name. Creating a Folder (METHOD 2) : To create a folder in a folder Open a folder by double-clicking Right click the mouse in any clear area in the folder When the pop-up menu appears select New. Creating a Folder (METHOD 2) Using Drag and Drop to copy a file/ folder in a folder : Select the icon of the file or folder to be copied and hold down the left mouse button Drag and place the icon over the icon of the location (folder) where it is to be copied Release the mouse button. The file or folder will be placed in the location specified. Using Drag and Drop to copy a file/ folder in a folder Using Copy and Paste to copy a file/ folder in a folder : Select the file or folder to be copied. Click COPY from the EDIT menu or toolbar ;or right click the mouse and select COPY. Select the location where you want to place the file or folder.
