1. Know what trend to buy at the right time: Knowing what trends are happening at what time has a huge impact on your sales. You don’t want to be left behind by your competitors, who are making the right choices and investing good time and effort to develop trends. Here are a few tips to help you to make the right choices:

• Don’t just sign up to one trend website-research a few. There are many of them out there . If your budget is tight then there are many free sites you can look at. But, please bear in mind that the information will not be as collated and probably more generic than the subscription based site trend sites. Some good freebie sites: style.com – Have the latest catwalk shows uploaded as and when they happen. Highly recommended. fashionmag.com - Multi purpose site with a ton of content from street fashion to the catwalk.

• Most trends happen on the street-have a look at what people are wearing ! There are also some fantastic blogs out there from savvy street smart bloggers documenting what people are wearing on the street. Some of the best ones: streetpeeper.com facehunter.blogspot.com • Consider outsourcing your trend research with a reputable design consultancy: If you have a budget to invest in trend research then this is highly recommended. You will gain an added advantage above your competitors of more tailor-made and specified trends for your market, giving you a more unique and exclusive edge. The key here is to source a design consultancy that is “on the same page” as you with regards to design aspirations and ethos.

Ask yourself how you would feel to be the No.1 t shirt brand above your competitors.

3. Know your market inside out: Have you ever bought a design that has completely "bombed", because you did not understand your customer market properly?. If this ever happens to you, make sure you follow these steps: • Where you can, look at previous years sales for your brand- This seems very obvious, but it amazes me how many brands are not doing this regularly! Compare like for like sales and put the results to good use. Let them help you, to make informative decisions about the present .

• Are there any particular trends your customers buy into year after year?- Are there certain tones of colours or even styles your customer will buy into year after year. This is something you could adapt, season to season, dependant on the trend. • Know your customers’ taste inside out- Do you know where else they shop, music tastes, hobbies? If you have a Facebook fan page keep up to date with them and see what other styles, music and fashion they are into.
