Why CLABIL - USP The ONLY completely free, non institutional online library for the blind. Manually maintained database – no adult content, no copyright infringement and no junk. Google of audio books from all over the net – keyword searchable, consolidates data across websites.

CONCEPT BRIEF Need to end print disabled person’s dependence on the institutional infrastructure and to make audio books directly accessible to them. 3 dimensional solution to the problem Generation of content- volunteers, “read fest” organization and school events Distribution of content- Online free, mobile download on fee sharing basis, Digital Media physical distribution. Making content accessible directly to blind children- Kit containing Mp3 player, headphones, power charger, SD card. Ease of exchanging books even with rationed computer access Key is to provide personal listening devices and easy access to books. Early intervention, so that the reading habit is formed early.

OBJECTIVES:

OBJECTIVES Objectives of CLABIL project Making audio books available to the blind and all print disabled people at an online, free to download and use platform. Creating infrastructure that will make it possible for a blind person to listen to audio books whenever, wherever they want it. To inculcate an early reading habit among the blind children, and ensure that they do not lose the competitive edge gained by the additional childhood reading.

GENERATION OF CONTENT Content Creation Blind institutions with existing audio books Individual volunteers to record at their convenience using freeware audacity or record on phone and send to us (we can convert to mp3) Organisations and Educational Institutions- Read fest Commercial audio book producers-obsolete or rejected files Content Consolidation Accessible from a single interface - search engine covering all the sites with audio content in Indian languages.

DISTRIBUTION OF CONTENT:

DISTRIBUTION OF CONTENT Making it accessible to the beneficiary group with ease of use without use of any software (in order of preference) Internet-free download, no signup Mobile phones- Tie-ups with mobile service providers to allow download of content. Provide content on digital media and physically ship it. Distribute mp3 players with inbuilt speakers to blind schools and village schools so that the stories can be told to the entire class Ensuring continued distribution and access.- enough content, more locations, more languages and formats. Constant communication is the key

Bhonpu contains the mp3 player with loud output, Slot for SD card, 20 hrs battery backup charged using Nokia charger, USB Slot, checked for tactile usage by blind teacher/ student. “The Kit”- For blind kids to have. Cost Rs. 400 from Delhi’s Wholesale market Kit Contains- mp3 player, one set of headphones, one USB Connector that doubles up as a connector to the power plug, SD card slot. Also tactile tested

Order CD from the website - 80 rs per CD ordered is the margin. Commercial Audio Book sellers - One time payment for commercial use of content. Could range from INR 5000 per file to INR 15000 per file.

Project Financials :

Project Financials Revenue Sources for partial sustainability Pay Per Click for Commercial Book sites – Roughly 1-2 INR per click. Pay Per Purchase for Commercial Book Sellers Order on CD and other digital media. Cross Selling through commercial audio book sellers. Shopping Cart on our site – For higher margins per sale. User has the option to combine paid and free content, and content from multiple sellers.
