(1) Germany Split : Germany Split After the Yalta Conference the allied forces decided to split control of Germany (1) Great Britain, the United States, Russia, and France all had a portion of Germany (1) Slide 4: Democratic Great Britain, United States, and France controlled West Germany (2) Communist Russia controlled East Germany (2) Slide 5: In June of 1948 Russia began a blockade in Berlin (2) Slide 6: U.S. and British troops began flying in goods to the citizens of East Berlin 24 hours a day (2) Casualties : Casualties During the 16 month airlift 79 U.S. and British troops lost their lives (4) East Berlin Revolt : East Berlin Revolt In 1953 East Berlin workers began to revolt because of unfair working conditions (1) Slide 9: The Red Army tanks convinced them to go back to work (1) 1957 : 1957 Stalin has decided that East Germans can’t leave.
