The Basics Legislative Branch is known as “Congress: Given the power to make laws Divided into the: 1. Senate 2. House of Representatives

The House of Representatives : 

The House of Representatives Members are elected every two (2) years Qualifications: At least 25 years old Be a U.S. citizen for at least seven(7) years Live within the state they represent

Apportionment : 

Apportionment The number of representatives in a state is based on state population Apportionment - divide and allocate A census must be taken every ten (10) years Number of representatives is fixed at 435

Filling Openings : 

Filling Openings State governors have the power to fill any openings if a representatives leaves prior to the conclusion of his/her term Example: Rod Blagojevich

Impeaching : 

Impeaching Major Power: House has the sole power to IMPEACH Impeach – to accuse a federal official of wrongdoing
