It is situated at the height of 4,380 meters. According to Hindu legend, the lake was created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishula (trident) into a mountain to extract water so that he could cool his harsh throat after he had swallowed poison. There is a large rock in the centre of the lake, which is said to be the remains of a Shiva shrine. Not only for the religious purpose, Gosainkunda is also known for its wonderful scenery.
