Date: 1998 Purpose of Test: This test measures the school achievement of children. Development: Standardization: It was normed on a nationwide sample of 2,476 students in grades 1 though 12. Reliability: The overall reliability coefficients ranged from .87 to .95 for all ages. Validity: This instrument is correlated well with the Wide Range Achievement, the Peabody Individual Achievement Test, the Metropolitan Achievement Test, the Standford Achievement Test, and the ABC with correlation ratings from .75 to 0.86. Administration: Individual Interpretation of Scoring: Age and grade norms Limitations: Age: 6 through 18 Grade: 1 through 12 Other: Strengths: The test provides an analysis of a child’s educational strengths and weaknesses in reading, mathematics, and spelling to identify possible skill areas needing remediation or enrichment.

K-TEAThe Basics :

K-TEAThe Basics Title of Test: Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement Author: Alan S. Kaufman, Nadeen L. Kaufman Publisher: American Guidance Service, Inc. Purpose of Test: This test measures the school achievement of children and adolescents in grades 1 through 12 in the areas of reading decoding, reading comprehension, mathematics applications, mathematics computation, and spelling.

K-TEATest Materials :

K-TEATest Materials Manual Easel-Kit - contains all five subtests Individual test record Error analysis summary

K-TEAGeneral Guidelines for the Examiner :

K-TEAGeneral Guidelines for the Examiner The examiner does not need to be highly trained Examiners should practice with the test before “real” students are tested. Establish and maintain rapport with the student Directions in the k-tea easel should be followed with precision. Examiners should never paraphrase, simplify, or otherwise modify the wording of specific items.

K-TEAGeneral Guidelines for the Examiner Cont... :

K-TEAGeneral Guidelines for the Examiner Cont... Giving feedback regarding the correctness of a response is not permissible during a standardized test. The rules for acceptable responses must be precisely adhered to. Examiners must acquaint themselves with Easel-Kit and other test materials.

K-TEAAdministering the Test :

K-TEAAdministering the Test The examiner and student should be positioned at adjacent sides of the table. Shield the individual test record by placing it behind the easel-kit being used. The subtests are ordered in the easel to match the test record Once the test has begun, the examiner merely works forward through the easel, administering each subtest in turn, until the battery is complete.

K-TEAAdministration Guidelines :

K-TEAAdministration Guidelines For each subtest, items are grouped in units, easily identified on the individual test record by heavy horizontal lines. Discontinue testing if the student fails every item in one unit. If the student passes at least two items in the first unit administered, continue to give more advanced items until the discontinue criterion is met. Begin with the starting point designated for the individual’s grade level.

K-TEAAdministration guidelines Cont... :

K-TEAAdministration guidelines Cont... The subtest sequence specified should be followed whenever feasible. Examiners may use verbal cues, such as, “Try it; i bet you can do it.” It is always permissible to repeat orally presented items.

K-TEAScoring the Test :

K-TEAScoring the Test Correct responses are scored 1 and incorrect responses are scored 0. Total raw score on each subtest is simply the number of items answered correctly. Students who start a subtest beyond item 1 are given credit for earlier items not administered as long as they pass at least two items in the first unit administered.

K-TEAInterpreting the Test :

K-TEAInterpreting the Test Step One: compute a band of error for each standard score in the profile. Step Two: translate standard scores to metrics. Step Three: assign descriptive labels to the battery composite, reading composite, and mathematics composite standard scores. Step Four: determine the significance of the difference between global skills. Step Five: determine the significance of the difference between specific skills.
