Objectives : 

Objectives To study socio-demographic profile of drug users To evaluate attitude, acceptability and effect of NADA ear acupuncture as an additional tool in de-addiction treatment programme.

Materials and Methods : 

Materials and Methods Place :Tek Chand Sidana Memorial Psychiatric Hospital & De-addiction Centre Sri Ganganagar Rajasthan Study Period: 1st January to 30th June 2006. 100 cases admitted in the ward with substance abuse Information collected by clinical psychologist A semi structured Performa was used to record socio -demographic data and clinical information All patients were evaluated by psychiatrist & diagnosis of psychiatric illness and substance abuse were made according to ICD-10 Informed written consent was taken from the participants for admission and ear acupuncture. Patients were administered three Point NADA ear acupuncture every day for five days then twice a week till discharge.

The NADA model can be summarized and defined as follows: : 

The NADA model can be summarized and defined as follows: Clinicians use three ear acupuncture points (sympathetic, shemmen, lung) Treatment is provided in a group setting for duration of 40—45 minutes. Acupuncture treatment is integrated with conventional elements of psycho-social rehabilitation.

Conclusion NADA EAR ACUPUNCTUREADDITIONAL TOOL IN DE-ADDICTION Safe, acceptable and affordable effective in up to 70% of patients It can *Reduce pain and suffering during detoxification * Reduce the dose of drugs required *Increase the number of patients continuing in the programe

Limitation : 

Limitation No control group This paper is a part of on going study – We planed to compare the outcome of different groups who continued with acupuncture with those who dropped out after one year
