Prophets’ Family Tree: Who is Prophet Nuh (AS)? Prophets’ Family Tree 2When the Entire World Drowned - Except a Few Prophet Noah's Story: When the Entire World Drowned - Except a Few Prophet Noah's Story As you know, all the descendents of Prophet Adam (AS) lived in the fertile plains of the River Euphrates and River Tigris in Iraq. This plain is also known as Mesopotamia. At the time of Prophet Noah (AS), this was the population of the entire world 3PowerPoint Presentation: Fertile Plains of Mesopotamia The people of Prophet Noah (AS) lived between the rivers of Tigris and Euphrates, in current-day Iraq. 4PowerPoint Presentation: Mesopotamia: Where All the World Lived Then Encircled is the land of Prophet Noah (AS): Mesopotamia, (Iraq), where the floods occurred. From here the remaining population spread far and wide in the world as we know it. 5Patience: For Almost 10 centuries!: Patience: For Almost 10 centuries! Prophet Noah (AS) preached to his people for 950 years! “We (once) sent Noah to his people, and he tarried among them a thousand years less fifty: but the Deluge overwhelmed them while they (persisted in) sin.” (29:14) Still very few people embraced faith. 6The Saved Few Spread Throughout the World: The Saved Few Spread Throughout the World The true story of The Great Flood is found in the ancient history of nearly every community in the world and is documented in many religions. This is because all the people and the animals who were in Noah’s Ark, dispersed all over the world, over several centuries. (Ref: “The Meaning of the Holy Quran”, By Syed A. A. Maududi, English translation Page 37 & 40.) 7PowerPoint Presentation: Migration paths of the human population, from where Noah’s Ark anchored, at Mount Judi The extreme north eastern side of Asia was joined as one land mass to the north western side of North America then. This facilitated the remaining people in going from Asia to the Americas. 8PowerPoint Presentation: Where the flood started: Mosul, now a town in Iraq Highlighted, in the oval, the town of Mosul, where the flood started. Also highlighted with the arrow, Mount Judi where the boat anchored. The Ark anchored at Mount Judi (according to the Holy Quran), on the Eastern side of Modern Turkey in the District of Bohtan. 9PowerPoint Presentation: Mount Judi & Mosul A closer-up map of the location of Mount Judi, and the town of Mosul. 10The Ship: Noah’s Ark: The Ship: Noah’s Ark According to scientific tests on the timber of Noah’s Ark, an estimate of the age of the Ark is said to be 100,000 years (still a rough estimate). Noah’s Ark was 350 Cubit (about 500 feet) long. By all standards, it was a huge ship. It accommodated Prophet Noah (AS)’s family, the righteous people of the time and a pair of all the animals and birds that we find in the world today. 11About the Ark: About the Ark Mount Judi where Noah’s Ark anchored (above). Structure of the Ark (center). The shape of the boat which was 500 ft. long can be seen (below). 12PowerPoint Presentation: The amazing structure inside Noah’ Ark. The ship was five-storeys high 13The Architect of Noah’s Ark: The Architect of Noah’s Ark Remember Prophet Noah(AS) was neither an engineer nor an architect. Obviously, he constructed the Big Ship under the instructions of the Almighty God. 14Divine Instructions: Divine Instructions Allah (SWT) instructed Prophet Noah(AS), saying “… construct an Ark under Our Eyes and Our Inspiration and address Me no (further) on behalf of those who are in sin for they are about to be overwhelmed (in the flood).” (11:37) Thus the architect and the engineer of this ship was God the All Mighty Himself. 15PowerPoint Presentation: Illustration: By God’s order Prophet Noah (AS) loaded a pair of each animal in the Ark. The Ark could easily take elephants, giraffe & many more… 16The Ark's Journey: The Ark's Journey Noah’s Ark floated on waves, towering like mountains. (11:42) The Ark stored water, food for the human beings, for all animals and the birds. The great flood is said to have spread nearly 1200 miles upto Turkey. Noah’s Ark sailed for nearly six and a half months. How? It was God’s mercy! 17PowerPoint Presentation: Reference of this historical story can be found in: Surah Araf, 7:59-64 and Surah Hud, 11:25-42 for the story of Prophet Noah(AS) and Tafseer in ‘The Meaning of the Holy Quran’, By Maulana A.A. Maudodi (English Translation) 18Why did God punish People of Prophet Noah (AS)?: Why did God punish People of Prophet Noah (AS)? The people of Prophet Noah (AS) : did not believe and worship One Allah, instead they worshipped false gods, they sank to the lowest depth of degradation, they were tyrants, immorality was rampant, for 950 years Prophet Noah(AS) advised and preached to them patiently, but they kept denying, except very few who became righteous. 19The Message of All Prophets: The Message of All Prophets Prophet Noah (AS) used to say, ‘O my people worship Allah. I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day’. And his people used to say, ‘Ah, we see you evidently wandering in mind.’ Prophet Noah (AS) would say that he was perfectly sane and on the contrary he was an Apostle from the Lord. He was giving sincere advice to them and he knew something from Allah that they did not know. He used to ask them to serve none but Allah(SWT). He used to warn them: Fear Allah so that you may receive His Mercy 20Prophet Noah (AS) Asked Nothing in Return: Prophet Noah (AS) Asked Nothing in Return “And O my People I ask you for no wealth in return: my reward is from none but Allah : but I will not drive away (in contempt) those who believe : for verily they are to meet their Lord, and you, I see are the ignorant ones !” (11:29) 21The Sins of His People that caused the punishment: The Sins of His People that caused the punishment The people of Prophet Noah (AS) used to worship false gods. Committing ‘Shirk’ (polytheism). They had created a Class of people who represented false gods. Slowly this Class took possession of all religious, political and economic powers of the community. They further created barriers of higher & lower classes of people. Chaos, tyranny and immorality were rampant. And they sank to the lowest depth of degradation. For 950 years they kept denying the Message of God (Reference: Tafseer from ‘The Meaning of the Holy Quran’, English Translation by Maulana A. A. Maudodi). 22And So Allah Sent The Order to Punish Them... after many chances over many years: And So Allah Sent The Order to Punish Them... after many chances over many years 23Traits of Human Downfall : Traits of Human Downfall These Unbelievers were impelled by three powerful, evil human instincts which resisted ‘grace’: Jealousy between themselves and also that no one is better than themselves Contempt of the weak (who may be spiritually & intellectually better) Arrogance In their arrogance, the people did not realize that the Prophet’s message was a Message of Mercy. 24Prophetic Traits for us to learn from: Prophetic Traits for us to learn from Prophet Noah (AS) being a Prophet of God always spoke with humility, gentleness, firmness, persuasiveness, truth and love for his people. His people used to tell him that the meanest in society only had accepted his faith. But the Prophet used to tell them that he cannot send those away who have believed, in order to attract those who were highly-placed in society. God sees and values the spiritual wellness of the poor believers. 25…& Who Can Save You …: …& Who Can Save You … One son of Prophet Noah (AS), who was an Unbeliever and did not board the Ark, was drowned in front of the Prophet’s eyes. Does this not show us clearly that no one and nothing can save us from God’s punishment - except our Belief, Imaan , in one God, and in doing good deeds? 26The Lesson: The Lesson The story makes it abundantly clear for the seekers of the truth, what the All Mighty and the Most Merciful God demands from us. It is: To believe that there is no God except Allah and to believe and act on the commandments brought by His Prophet To do virtuous deeds and refrain from cruelty, greed, immorality and evil acts. 27PowerPoint Presentation: No other religion...only Islam is accepted Allah has said: “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter, he will be one of the losers.” (3: 85) We must follow Islam for success in this life and the next. If we do not... Think! Who are we fighting against – God? We will lose!! And one day we must die, and face accountability. 28 The PathCredits & Acknowledgements: Credits & Acknowledgements We sincerely thank the photographers, illustrators, geographers and others whose images have been used herein.
