ORTHOTIC SPLINTING:

ORTHOTIC SPLINTING Applied to the external surface of the limbs or trunk to promote stability, maintain joint alignment, and improve function.

PLASTICS:

PLASTICS A plastic is any of wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solid that are mouldable. Plastic are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals, but many are partially natural.

LOW TEMPERATURE THERMOPLASTIC:

LOW TEMPERATURE THERMOPLASTIC a low temperature thermoplastic used for fabrication of splints, braces and adaptive equipment. Plastics which require no more than 80°C (180°F) to become workable may be termed low-temperature thermoplastics.

Features of LTTP:

F eatures of LTTP It is very easy to cut a pattern in low-temperature thermoplastics with scissors, particularly when the material is warm. The very process of cutting the heated plastic, in most instances, produces smooth edges without need for sanding or polishing. Some of the stiffer plastics, however, can be cut better with a coping saw, while others are easier to cut with scissors when cool.

PRINCIPAL:

PRINCIPAL The principal use of low-temperature thermoplastics is in upper-limb orthotics where rapid provision of assistive or protective orthosis is often desirable. One can maintain the arches and inter digital spaces of the paralyzed hand with simple thermoplastic orthosis.

ORTHOPLAST:

ORTHOPLAST It comes in flat sheet material. Orthoplast become malleable with an almost rubbery texture and it can be molded around the area being splinted.

AQUAPLAST :

AQUAPLAST Heating and Working Times: 6mm for 35 seconds at 70-75 degree Celsius give 1-2 minutes working time 4mm for 1 minute at 70-75 degree Celsius give 2-3 minutes working time 2mm for 1minute at 70-75 degree Celsius give 2-3 minutes working time 8 mm 1-2 minute at 70-75 degree Celsius give 4-7 minutes working time

Polyform :

Polyform Minimum resistance to stretch . Natural drape with minimum handling. Ideal splinting material for dynamic outrigger bases, lightweight paediaric splints; thumb, finger, wrist and hand based splints.

Plastofit :

Plastofit Ideal for serial casting to reduce IP flexion contractures and to immobilize the IP joints. Lightweight and perforated to allow air flow. Heat in 150° F (66° C) water to soften.

Hexcelite :

Hexcelite Hexcelite Orthopaedic Tape can be used effectively for splinting thumb joints . The open weave material is easily molded, lightweight, and durable. It is useful in the rehabilitation management of a variety of thumb disorders and is well accepted by patients

Orfit :

Orfit Thinner perforated Orfit has minimal resistance to stretch for making lightweight circumferential splints . all Orfit materials can be reheated as often as needed to achieve optimal positioning. Orfit turns transparent when heated, so it's easy to tell when the material is ready to use . For easier handling.

3 mm 3D Lite:

3 mm 3D Lite 3mm 3D-Lite is used for small joints Shown here is a resting splint with edges covered with 3D-Safe edging material. Straps are easily attached with X- lite Thermoplastic hook. The light weight and breathability make it excellent for rheumatoid patients.

5 mm 3D Lite:

7 mm 3D Lite:

7 mm 3D Lite 7mm 3D-Lite is an extremly rigid material. Very suitable for adult TLSO and other applications where maximum rigidity is required. D-rings are secured with Premium X- lite and edges are covered with 3D-Safe edging material.

ADVANTAGES:

ADVANTAGES Thermoplastics, in contrast, become formable when heated, and rigid when cooled. After they have cooled, they may be reheated and reshaped many times. This useful feature permits repeated alterations of the orthosis .
