Jake, hi...I'm Mr. Bill from Upper Darby, Pa and I work in the same school as your Aunt Angie...I teach music !!!!! You are quite the "guy" Jake, courageous!!! So I often tell you your Aunt Angie a joke or two to start the day so I will continue that tradition with you!!! " Police reported this morning that they apprehended robbers in the neighborhood this morning. Police testified they caught red-handed...two clothespins that held up a pair of pants! That usually puts your Aunt Angie right over the top!! Hope you enjoyed it Jake and know that you are in my thoughts!!! Mr. Bill

Slide 1:

For the Sake of Jake Happiness depends more on the inward disposition of mind than on outward circumstances . ~Benjamin Franklin

Slide 2:

Jake Watson is one of the happiest people you will ever meet despite a rough start to life. He doesn’t even realize he’s disabled and we have no intention of telling him otherwise.

Slide 3:

Within minutes of being born Jake was whisked away to his first of sixteen surgeries by age twelve.

Slide 4:

Jake was born with Spina Bifida. When Jake was born his back was open, his feet were twisted and there was to much fluid in his brain. His first surgery fixed his back and put a shunt in his head.

Slide 5:

When Jake was born the doctors told us he would never walk and we shouldn’t even try… Being the Watson’s we took that as a challenge and over the years Jake has used braces and walkers to help him prove the doctors wrong. We are still masters of our fate. We are still captains of our souls. Winston Churchill

Slide 6:

For many years Jake did walk and work very hard at doing so. However within a couple years it became to painful for him to continue. As of now Jake is confined to a wheelchair and cannot move anything from his hips down and can’t feel anything from the knees down. This has never and will never stop Jake though.

Slide 7:

Sam and I met Jake five days after he was born and fell in love with him. From that moment on he’s always been our little Jakie .

Slide 8:

Most people complain about the little things in life. Jake remains positive even though he has many things he could complain about.

Slide 9:

Surgery seventeen is quickly approaching as well as Jake’s thirteenth birthday, on July 8 th .

Slide 10:

Since Jake’s birthday and his surgery are so close my family and I decided it would be a good idea to see how many people we could get to write Jake birthday and or get well cards that he can read while he recovers. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy just a simple homemade card if you want. Since Jake’s not that good at cursive we would ask that all cards be in print.

Slide 11:

It’ll take the whole summer for him to recover so we hope the cards will come all summer long. This will give him something to look forward to everyday as he heals

Slide 12:

If you could add a knock-knock joke or a funny story it would help keep Jake’s spirits up.

Slide 13:

Please pass this message on to all of your friends and people you know. My family and I would really appreciate it and it would make Jake smile. After a couple months we plan on posting where the farthest letter came from, how many cards we received and uploading pictures of the coolest cards.

Slide 14:

Please send all cards to: Jake Watson PO Box 212 Myersville, MD 21773
