Slide 3: WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING ? Earth is naturally insulated by a dedicate balance of heat trapping (“green house“) gases in the atmosphere . When the sun shines on the earth some of the heat is absorbed keeping earth warm enough to support life Slide 4: WHAT WENT WRONG The problem is that over the last century ,we humans have been releasing more and more carbon dioxide and other heat trapping gases when we burn fuels and cut down the forests. These additional gases have upset the natural balance of our atmosphere Slide 5: How have we hurt ourselves AIR: Polluted by industrial gas, air craft fuel etc… Water :Polluted by industrial wastes ,plastics etc…. Land: polluted by non bio degradable products and chemicals Slide 6: SIGNS TELLING US EVERYTHING IS NORMAL Floods in the area where the flood history is not common Droughts in places ,which we were having good rainfall earlier Atmosphere suddenly getting harsh in terms of cyclones and thunderstorms Slide 7: LIFE FORMS GETTING AFFECTED The butterflies have migrated from warm southern zone to cooler northern zone. Due to melting of ice the life cycle of penguins is getting disturbed leading to their death The coral growth along the great barrier reef is getting reduced day by day Polar bears are facing extinction due to melting of polar ice Slide 8: LOOMING THREATS Rising sea levels ,leading to more coastal erosion Increased drought and increased incidence of wild life Severe stress on many forests wetlands and other natural ecosystems Impact on human health as mosquitoes and other disease –carrying insects and rodent spread diseases over larger geographical regions Slide 9: H ave you done anything to stop this? Slide 10: Who can make a difference Government Us Slide 11: STEPS WHICH WE CAN TAKE Replacing a regular incandescent light bulb with a cfl Do not leave appliances on stand by Slide 12: Cover your pots while cooking Use washing machine or dish washer only when they are full Plant a tree Slide 13: LETS MAKE A WORLD BETTER PLACE THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!!!!!!!!
