Mr. Mill's Arbitrary Definition of Classroom Management :Mr. Mill's Arbitrary Definition of Classroom Management Classroom Management: The procedures, policies, and plans put in teacher that, when executed properly, combine to maximize student learning and teacher efficiency while minimizing problems symptomatic of children being in a place they do not want to be and where they outnumber their supervisors.

Mr. Mill's Florid Description of a Positive Learning Environment :Mr. Mill's Florid Description of a Positive Learning Environment A positive learning environment is: Quiet most of the time, but louder and active regularly Centered on student work, but with the teacher as the central figure Conducive to teaching the required objectives, but is never transparently about them alone Encouraging of children to take responsibility for their own education, but not condemning when they do not

Mr. Mill's Impractical Philosophy of Discipline and Classroom Management :Mr. Mill's Impractical Philosophy of Discipline and Classroom Management Lacking a coherent philosophy, I will resort to platitudes Children do not owe the teacher respect or effort Corporal punishment, of any kind, and/or embarrassment are not acceptable punishments, for me Punishments are necessary, but positive reinforcement and constant activity are useful for avoiding them Every day needs to be a clean slate Who someone is as a student does not reflect on who they are as a person School requires certain constraints and compromises

Mr. Mill's Arcane Set of Rules :Mr. Mill's Arcane Set of Rules Rules No interrupting (Alternative positive phrasing: Speak in such a manner that no one else's speaking is curtailed or undermined)? Stay in your seat Follow directions Only have out class-related materials (Pencil, Paper, Mind)?

Modified Rules :Modified Rules Procedural Violations Leaving Seat W/O Permission Talking out of turn Throwing Paper Asking to go to bathroom, sharpen pencil, or get tissue, rather than follow procedure Behavioral Violations Exhibiting disrespect or immature behavior Refusal to Follow Instructions Disruption of Class

If it becomes necessary, consequences will be tracked on board by student number)?

Modified Consequences (will be tracked on ubiquitous clipboard :Modified Consequences (will be tracked on ubiquitous clipboard Procedural Violations 2 violations = writing assignment -4 violations = 2 writing assignments Continued violations or failure to turn in writing assignments on next day will result in referral Behavioral Violations -1st violation-Verbal Warning (can be informal)? 2nd violation-Writing Assignment -3rd violation-2Writing Assignments 4th violation or failure to do writing assignments-Referral
